Gaby Roslin

Gaby Roslin (born 12 July 1964) is an English television presenter and actress, who rose to fame co-presenting The Big Breakfast on Channel 4 between 1992 and 1996. Roslin presented the Children in Need charity telethons on the BBC between 1995 and 2004.

She has presented the weekly The National Lottery Draws on Saturday evenings and co-presents the Channel 5 daytime programme The Saturday Show alongside Matt Barbet.

Early life

Roslin, daughter of former BBC radio announcer Clive Roslin, was born and raised in London. Her family is Jewish, originating from Zimbabwe (then Rhodesia). She attended the King Alfred School, London (independent), and then the Guildford School of Acting and embarked on a career in television presenting.

Career

Roslin first presented Hippo on the Superchannel and then Motormouth on ITV from 1989 until 1992. At the end of that show, she was approached by Planet 24 to present their new early-morning programme The Big Breakfast alongside Chris Evans on Channel 4. Evans left the show in 1994 and Roslin continued with his replacement, Mark Little until 1996. In her last year on the show, she also fronted the National Egg Awareness Campaign. Following her departure, she hosted The Gaby Roslin Show for Channel 4.

Gaby is a town and comune in the Aosta Valley region of northwestern Italy.

The Italian Sunflower Festival is held there during summer. Gaby is home to the 19th century Sanctuary of Vourry.

Gaby (film)

Gaby is a 1956 drama film made by MGM. It is the third version of the play Waterloo Bridge, previously made into films in 1931 and 1940. It is the only version of the play made in color, and the least faithful to it. Not only the story but the names of the characters were also changed. Unlike the 1931 and 1940 versions, this film ends happily.

This version was directed by Curtis Bernhardt and produced by Edwin H. Knopf. The screenplay was by Albert Hackett, Frances Goodrich and Charles Lederer, based on the screenplay of Waterloo Bridge by S. N. Behrman, Paul H. Rameau and George Froeschel. All three versions were based on the play by Robert E. Sherwood.

The film stars Leslie Caron as Gaby and John Kerr with Sir Cedric Hardwicke, Taina Elg and Margalo Gillmore.

Plot

Gaby (Caron) is a ballet dancer in 1944 London who runs into corporal Gregory Wendell (Kerr) while rushing to catch the bus. Greg is mesmerized by Gaby and goes to the ballet to see her on stage, but Gaby wants nothing to do with Greg. He persists, and by the end of the day, she agrees to marry him.
