Glitch

A glitch is a short-lived fault in a system. It is often used to describe a transient fault that corrects itself, and is therefore difficult to troubleshoot. The term is particularly common in the computing and electronics industries, and in circuit bending, as well as among players of video games, although it is applied to all types of systems including human organizations and nature.

Etymology

Some reference books, including Random House's American Slang, claim that the term comes from the German word glitschen ("to slip") and the Yiddish word gletshn ("to slide or skid"). Either way it is a relatively new term, as on July 23, 1965, Time Magazine felt it necessary to define it in an article: "Glitches—a spaceman's word for irritating disturbances." In relation to the reference by Time Magazine, the term has been believed to enter common usage during the American Space Race of the 1950s, where it was used to describe minor faults in the rocket hardware that were difficult to pinpoint.

Glitch!

Glitch! is a 1988 American comedy film directed by Nico Mastorakis. It involves two petty thieves who accidentally become casting directors of a film with a large number of beautiful girls, and later they must dodge the Mafia.

Plot

Two thieves rob a large fancy house when the owner is away, but when a visitor mistakes them for the owner, and they find out about a casting party misscheduled for that day, they decide to stick around for fun. They have only one small problem, though. The real owners owe some bad dudes a lot of money, and they show up to collect it.

Glitch was a browser-based massively multiplayer online game created by Tiny Speck. The game was developed under the leadership of Stewart Butterfield.

Glitch was officially launched on September 27, 2011, but reverted to beta status on November 30, 2011, citing accessibility and depth issues. Glitch was officially shut down on December 9, 2012, but on December 9, 2014, a fan project to relaunch Glitch under the name Eleven began alpha testing. An alpha tester described Eleven as "identical to Glitch". The fan relaunch was made possible when all of Glitch's artwork and most of the source code was released under the public domain-like Creative Commons license CC0 on November 18, 2013.

    Gameplay

Glitch was a casual, 2D browser-based game featuring a strong multiplayer component. It deliberately steered away from combat mechanics, instead focusing on collaborative crafting and gathering activities. Players were prompted to complete quests and perform various activities that would change the persistent world. Players were invited to expand upon the world, shaping its growth through various activities such as growing plants and trees and cooking food items. The game was free to play, but players could spend money to acquire a number of things such as customization options for their avatar.

Outside you can not face the crowd
    No more communication
You lost the will, you lost the will
The web took al your social skill
Nothing in the real world's related
    Your new world is pixelated
And what if the connection fails
And what if the screen goes black
    Your life derails
The net is your lifeline, keeps you up
Your heart stops as the bandwidth drops
And you can almost touch her face
    Eyes closed, the room implodes
    This must be cyber heaven
A virtual mirage without the taste
    Left you disgraced
(Time to go out, time to breathe in)
(A second wind, your real life begins)
Time to go out, time to breathe in
A second wind, your real life begins
Try and shutdown, you'll never win
Your eyes are tired, sun burned your skin
A second wind, your real life begin
