GLA University

GLA University is a private recognized university approved by the Government, located in Mathura Uttar Pradesh, India. GLA University, Mathura is approved by and recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC), NCTE and Pharmacy Council of India

Vision

The vision of the university is to create a pace-setting university of academic excellence focused on education, research and development in established and emerging professions with a mission to impart quality professional education and to continuously enhance and enrich the teaching and learning process.

History

GLA University was started with the establishment of GLA Institute of Technology & Management offering B.tech and MCA programs, in the year 1998 by the Current Vice Chancellor Shri Narayan Das Agrawal. In the year 1999, MBA program was introduced with 60 seats. It was in 2006 when GLA group of institutions came into existence with establishment of three new institutions, namely GLA Institute of Management, GLA institute of Professional Studies, and GLA institute of Pharmaceutical Research. New courses like BBA, BCA, B.Sc. Biotech, B. Parhm were introduces under these institutions. The GLA University, Mathura is managed by GLA Group of Institutions that later, in 2010, grew to become the GLA University through the U.P. State Legislative Act of 2009 (UP Act 21 of 2010).

Gla

Gla (rarely Glas) (Greek: Γλα or Γλας) was an important fortified site of the Mycenaean civilization, located in Boeotia, mainland Greece. Despite its impressive size, more than ten times larger than contemporary Athens or Tiryns, Gla is not mentioned in the Iliad.

Description

Location

The site is located on a limestone outcrop or hill that jutted into Lake Kopais (now drained) or formed an island within it. The flat-topped outcrop rises up to 38m above the surrounding area. It measures circa 900 x 575m (at the widest point). The ancient name of the site is unknown, it is unclear whether it is one of the Boeotian places named by Homer (some scholars suggest that Gla is Homer's Arne). The scholarly designation "Gla" is from the Albanian word for fortification, the modern local population calls the site Paliokastro (Greek for "ancient fortress").

Size

Excavation revealed much detail about the fortification walls (which were always visible) and, on the interior, remains of buildings from the Mycenaean period. The fortification encloses an area of nearly 20 hectares, about 10 times as much as the Mycenaean citadels of Athens or Tiryns.
