The Cow (film)

The Cow (Persian: گاو‎‎, Gāv or Gāāv) is a 1969 Iranian film directed by Dariush Mehrjui, written by Gholam-Hossein Saedi based on his own play and novel, and starring Ezzatolah Entezami as Masht Hassan. Critics widely consider it the first film of the Iranian New Wave.

Plot

The story begins by showcasing the close relationship between a middle-aged Iranian villager Masht Hassan and his beloved cow. Hassan is married but has no children. His only valuable property is a cow that he cherishes the only cow in the village. When Hassan must leave the village for a short time, the pregnant cow is found dead in the barn. Hassan's fellow villagers fear his reaction and cover up the evidence of the death and tell him upon his return that his cow has run away. Finding great difficulty confronting the loss of his beloved cow, as well the loss of livestock that affects his social stature at the village, Hassan gradually goes insane following a nervous breakdown and believes he is the cow, adopting such mannerisms as eating hay. His wife and the villagers try in vain to restore his sanity. The film ends with Hassan's death.

Gulfstream V

The Gulfstream V (or G-V or GV) is a business jet aircraft produced by Gulfstream Aerospace. It is also used by the US military under the designation C-37A. The G500 and G550 are improved versions. The Gulfstream G550 was formerly known as the Gulfstream V SP (G-V SP).

Design and development

The Gulfstream V (also called the G-V) first flew in 1995, was certified in 1997, and was one of the first "ultra-long range" (~6,000-nautical-mile (11,000 km)) business aircraft. Capable of carrying up to 16 people in standard seating configurations, and able to fly up to 6,500 nmi (12,000 km), the GV became the longest range business jet ever made (at the time of its introduction). Total production of the Gulfstream V was 191 aircraft.

C-37A

Designated C-37A in U.S. Air Force service, the Gulfstream V is used by government and Defense Department officials. The US Coast Guard operates two C-37A for transportation of the Department of Homeland Security Secretary and the Commandant of the Coast Guard. The US Navy operates one C-37A.

G-type main-sequence star

A G-type main-sequence star (Spectral type: G-V), often (and imprecisely) called a yellow dwarf, or G dwarf star, is a main-sequence star (luminosity class V) of spectral type G. Such a star has about 0.8 to 1.2 solar masses and surface temperature of between 5,300 and 6,000 K.^{, Tables VII, VIII.} Like other main-sequence stars, a G-type main-sequence star is in the process of converting the element hydrogen to helium in its core by means of nuclear fusion. The Sun, the star to which the Earth is gravitationally bound in the Solar System and the object with the largest Apparent magnitude, is an example of a G-type main-sequence star. Each second, the sun fuses approximately 600 million tons of hydrogen to helium, converting about 4 million tons of matter to energy. Besides the Sun, other well-known examples of G-type main-sequence stars include Alpha Centauri A, Tau Ceti, and 51 Pegasi.

The term yellow dwarf is a misnomer, because G-type stars actually range in color from white, for more luminous types like the Sun, to only very slightly yellow for the less massive and luminous G-type main-sequence stars. The Sun is in fact white, but appears yellow through Earth's atmosphere due to atmospheric Rayleigh scattering. In addition, although the term "dwarf" is used to contrast yellow main-sequence stars from giant stars, yellow dwarfs like the Sun outshine 90% of the stars in the Milky Way (which are largely much dimmer orange dwarfs, red dwarfs, and white dwarfs, the last being a stellar remnant).
