  • Gäu

A Gäu landscape (Gäulandschaft) refers to an area of open, level countryside in the south German language (Alemannic area, or in Switzerland). These regions typically have fertile soils resulting from depositions of loess (an exception is the Arme Gäue ("Poor Gäus" of the Baden-Württemberg Gäu).

The intensive use of the Gäu regions for crops has displaced the originally wooded countryside (→climax vegetation – in contrast with the steppe heath theory and disputed megaherbivore hypothesis). The North German equivalent of such landscapes is börde.

The name Gäu (derived from the Roman pagus - a territory ruled by a lord - or from the Alemannic gou for Gau - a region) is used primarily today for a sparsely wooded cultural landscape type, that has evolved on the South German Scarplands between the Black Forest, the Stromber and Heuchelberg in the west and the Swabian Jura and Swabian Keuperwald Hills in the east. Because the region is further subdivided into the Oberes Gäu or Korngäu, Heckengäu, Strohgäu and Zabergäu it is also referred to as die Gäue (pl).

    Natural regional characteristics

The Gäu is a plateau, about 250 to 500 metres above sea level, comprising rocks of the muschelkalk and Lettenkeuper which has been deeply incised in places by the rivers Neckar, Ammer, Würm, Glems, Enz, Metter and Zaber. In the north the Swabian Gäu landscapes transition into the uplands of Bauland and Tauberland, in the west they are bounded by the Black Forest, in the east by the Swabian Jura and by the Keuper Upland regions of Schönbuch, Glemswald and the Swabian Forest.

    G.U.Y.

"G.U.Y." (an acronym for "girl under you") is a song by American singer Lady Gaga from her third studio album, Artpop (2013). The song was written and produced by Gaga and Zedd. It debuted on Italian radio as the album's third single on March 28, 2014. It was developed while Gaga was touring with Born This Way Ball, and was recorded a number of times for the final version. "G.U.Y." is an EDM track containing elements of industrial, contemporary R&B, and house music with its lyrics addressing a number of subjects like sexual dominance, submission, and gender roles.

"G.U.Y." received mixed reviews from music critics, who complimented the composition of the track and Gaga's vocals, but criticized its lyrics and production. The song debuted on the record charts of a few countries, but failed to enter the top ten in most of them. In the United States, "G.U.Y." became Gaga's lowest charting single on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at number 76. It reached the top ten on airplay charts of Bulgaria and Croatia, the Billboard Greek Digital Songs chart, and the US Hot Dance Club Songs chart.
