The Adicts

The Adicts are an English punk band from Ipswich, Suffolk, England. One of the more popular punk rock bands in the 1980s, they were often in the indie charts during that decade.

The Adicts originated as Afterbirth & The Pinz in late 1975. They soon changed their name to The Adicts and became known for their distinctive Clockwork Orange "droog" image, which along with their urgent, uptempo music and light-hearted lyrics, helped set them apart from other punk bands. In the 1980s, they temporarily changed their name to Fun Adicts (for a children's TV appearance) and then ADX (after signing to a major label).

Their music has catchy melodies and lyrics, and often features extra instruments and sound clips, such as carousel music in "How Sad", violin played by Derick Cook in "Joker in the Pack", and gongs and keyboard percussion by Anthony Boyd in "Chinese Takeaway".

The musicians wear all-white clothing with black boots and black bowler hats. The singer, Keith "Monkey" Warren, wears joker makeup, wildly patterned suits (such as checkerboard or polka dot), flared trousers, colorful dress shirts, bowler hat and gloves. The band's visual look is complemented by their stage shows, involving items such as streamers, confetti, playing cards, beach balls, joker hats, toy instruments, bubbles and glitter.

Nór

Nór (Old Norse Nórr) or Nori is firstly a mercantile title and secondly a Norse man's name. It is stated in Norse sources that Nór was the founder of Norway, from whom the land supposedly got its name. (The name in fact probably derives from ‘nórðrvegr’, ‘northern way’.)

Chronicon Lethrens'

The Chronicle of Lejre (“Chronicon Lethrense”) written about 1170 introduces a primeval King Ypper of Uppsala whose three sons were Dan who afterwards ruled Denmark, Nori who afterwards ruled Norway, and Østen who afterwards ruled the Swedes. But the account then speaks only of the descendants of Dan.

King Thorri (Þorri 'frozen snow'), king of Finland, Kvenland and Götaland in B, was son of Snær ('Snow') the Old, a descendant of Fornjót (ruler of Finland and Kvenland in F). See Snær and Fornjót for further information. The name Þorri has long been identified with that of Þórr, the name of the Norse thunder god Thor, or thunder personified.

G_i alpha subunit (G_αi, or G_i/G₀ or G_i protein) is a heterotrimeric G protein subunit that inhibits the production of cAMP from ATP. A mnemonic for remembering this subunit is to look at first letter (G_αi = Adenylate Cyclase inhibitor).

G_i mainly inhibits the cAMP dependent pathway by inhibiting adenylate cyclase activity, decreasing the production of cAMP from ATP, which, in turn, results in decreased activity of cAMP-dependent protein kinase. Therefore, the ultimate effect of G_i is the opposite of cAMP-dependent protein kinase.
