Karê

Karê, also known as Kardere, (Turkish: Sülüntaş) is a village of Mazgirt a small city and its surrounding district in Dersim (Tunceli), Turkey.

Only the 1894 Mamuretul Aziz yearbook stated there were Armenians living in Kardere. The population was given as 32 Armenians (17 males and 15 females) and 285 Kurdish people (161 males and 124 females) living in 76 total households.

Karō

Karō (家老, house elder) were top-ranking samurai officials and advisors in service to the daimyo of feudal Japan.

In the Edo period, the policy of sankin kōtai (alternate attendance) required each daimyo to place a karō in Edo and another in the home han (feudal domain). A karō who was in charge of a castle was called the jōdai karō (城代家老), while the one in Edo was called the Edo karō (江戸家老). A general term for a domain-based karō is kunigarō (国家老).

Some domains referred to this position as bugyō (奉行) or toshiyori (年寄).

An example of events involving a karō comes from one of the most famous of all samurai tales, Kanadehon Chushingura. The final Asano daimyo of the Ako han was Asano Naganori. While he was in Edo, he was sentenced to commit seppuku for the offense of drawing a sword against Kira Yoshinaka in Edo Castle. When the shogunate abolished the Ako han, all the Ako samurai became ronin. Oishi Kuranosuke, the jōdai karō, led 46 other ronin in a vendetta against Kira. As a result of his leadership in the Forty-seven Ronin affair, Oishi went down in history as the most famous of all karō.

G'Kar

G'Kar is a fictional character, played by Andreas Katsulas, in the universe of the science fiction television series Babylon 5. He initially appears as a villainous diplomat opposite Londo Mollari, being constantly engaged in insidious, if petty and often comical schemes, usually driven by his hostility to his people's historical enemies, the Centauri, whom Londo represents. However, in the course of the series, he is transformed into a Messianic figure and the foremost spiritual leader of his people.

Character history

Early life

G'Kar was a pouchling during the first Centauri occupation of his homeworld. His family served as servants in a Centauri household. This was during the time when the Narn resistance movement was gaining in strength and their increased aggression was slowly driving the Centauri out of Narn.

After G'Kar’s mother became very ill, only he and his father remained fit enough to serve in their Centauri master’s household. One day his father accidentally spilled a bowl of hot jala upon the mistress of the house. As punishment, his father was beaten to a pulp and was hung up on their family prayer tree. He lasted for three days before he finally died. G'Kar was with him, and his father told him just before he died that he was proud of him, and to do all the things that he could not – Fight the Centauri.
