Futures (album)

Futures is the fifth studio album by American alternative rock band Jimmy Eat World, released on October 19, 2004, through Interscope Records. Futures was led by the successful single "Pain", followed by "Work" and "Futures". The album has sold 620,000 units in the United States, giving it Gold Record status.

Background and recording

The band initially entered the studio with Mark Trombino, producer of the band's previous three studio albums, Static Prevails (1996), Clarity (1999), and Bleed American (2001). Disagreements, however, lead to Trombino's departure from the project and Gil Norton became the producer.

"Kill" references the Heatmiser song "Half Right", which the band would later cover for their Stay on My Side Tonight EP.

Futures was released on October 19, 2004 by Interscope. A deluxe edition of the album was released showcasing the album's songs in demo form.

Reception

Futures was well received by music critics upon its release. On the review aggregating website Metacritic, the album obtained an average score of 73, based on 22 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews."

! is an album by The Dismemberment Plan. It was released on October 2, 1995, on DeSoto Records. The band's original drummer, Steve Cummings, played on this album but left shortly after its release.

Album

Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century, first as books of individual 78rpm records, then from 1948 as vinyl LP records played at 33 ¹⁄₃ rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though in the 21st century albums sales have mostly focused on compact disc (CD) and MP3 formats. The audio cassette was a format used in the late 1970s through to the 1990s alongside vinyl.

An album may be recorded in a recording studio (fixed or mobile), in a concert venue, at home, in the field, or a mix of places. Recording may take a few hours to several years to complete, usually in several takes with different parts recorded separately, and then brought or "mixed" together. Recordings that are done in one take without overdubbing are termed "live", even when done in a studio. Studios are built to absorb sound, eliminating reverberation, so as to assist in mixing different takes; other locations, such as concert venues and some "live rooms", allow for reverberation, which creates a "live" sound. The majority of studio recordings contain an abundance of editing, sound effects, voice adjustments, etc. With modern recording technology, musicians can be recorded in separate rooms or at separate times while listening to the other parts using headphones; with each part recorded as a separate track.

ITF Men's Circuit

The ITF Men's Circuit is a series of professional tennis tournaments held around the world that are organized by the International Tennis Federation. The ITF Men's Circuit represents the lowest rung of the men's professional tennis ladder. ITF tournaments are incorporated into the ATP rankings, enabling young professionals to progress on to the ATP Challenger Tour and ultimately the full ATP World Tour. Nearly every professional player has spent some time on the ITF Men's Circuit.

Format

Originally, the ITF Men's Circuit consisted of satellite tournaments, each of which took place over four weeks. However, in the late 1990s, the ITF introduced Futures tournaments, allowing for greater flexibility in the organization of the tournaments for national associations, and participation in tournaments for players. Over time, the ratio of Futures tournaments to satellites increased until 2007, when satellites were eliminated entirely.

Futures tournaments allow for players to win career titles and improve their rankings. Futures are held in both singles and doubles, and last only one week. As of 2008, the prize fund for each tournament is either US$10,000 or US$15,000. Some tournaments also provide housing for participants. Futures usually have sizable qualifying draws, which allow unranked players to enter tournaments and earn ATP ranking points.

Futures magazine is a U.S.-based monthly print investment magazine covering "stocks, commodities, options and Forex strategy for the Modern Trader." .

Another periodical called Futures is a journal on policy, planning and futures studies.

The publication was established in 1972 under the name Commodities magazine. The name was changed to Futures in September 1983, and today it covers global industry trends, prominent people, trading technology, managed funds, fundamental and technical analysis.

It contains feature articles on the futures markets, with articles on industry issues, current market developments, trading techniques and strategies. Notable people interviewed by the magazine in 2014 were Jeff Sprecher (Futures' first "Person of the Year,"), Jim Rogers, and Senator Rand Paul.

Futures is published by The Alpha Pages, which acquired the publication in 2013 from Summit Business Media. Its main competitor is Technical Analysis of Stocks & Commodities.

History

The magazine started out under the name Commodities at a time when the futures market was expanding quickly, reaching tens of millions of contracts every year. The inaugural February/March issue, published in 1972, contained a note from executive editor and publisher Todd Lofton:

"Futures" is the title track of Jimmy Eat World's fifth album. It was the released as a promo 7", pressed on clear vinyl. It reached #27 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart in 2005.

The song is available as a downloadable song for the music video game series Rock Band as part of a Jimmy Eat World three-song pack, along with "Lucky Denver Mint" and "Sweetness".
