Fun Factory (band)

Fun Factory is a German eurodance group formed in 1992, originally consisting of founding members Balca Tözün, Rodney Hardison, Toni Cottura and Stephan Browarczyk. They have been nicknamed simply Balja, Rod D., Smooth T. and Steve. The group enjoyed success throughout the 90s.

Band history

1992–94: Formation, Non Stop-The Album and Balca's departure

The group was founded in 1992 along with four founding members Balca Tözün from Turkey, Rodney Hardison from America, Toni Cottura and Stephan Browarczyk from Germany. They released their first singles Fun Factory's Theme and Groove Me in 1992 and 1993. They shot a music video for Groove me. Fun Factory released their debut album Nonstop in 1994. Before their third single release Close To You in the late of 1993, lead singer Balca Tözün had been replaced with Marie-Anett Mey, an entertainer from Paris, France. With the second line-up the band gained massive success, though it has been later revealed, that Tözün kept providing vocals in the background for all their later releases until their disbandment in 1997 with Mey just lip-syncing and performing with the group on stage. Close To You became their first chart success peaking #1 at the Canadian Dance chart. Follow up singles were Take Your Chance and Pain being chart hits as well, peaking #18 and #24 in the German Single Chart respectively.

The Singing Kettle

The Singing Kettle were a folk music group who were well known for performing traditional children's songs with a distinctly Scottish flair.

Career

Husband and wife Cilla Fisher and Artie Trezise started touring as a folk singing duo in the mid-1970s.

The group name "The Singing Kettle" came about in 1982. Their first venture under this title was a children's album, featuring everything from traditional Scottish rhymes to songs learned on their folk tour of the USA. For certain tracks, real children were used, including their daughter Jane, creating the first set of "Kettle Kids".

The idea came of turning "The Singing Kettle" album into a show, as they were unimpressed by other, few, children's theatre shows at the time. The show toured to primary schools, with the idea of clues for songs found inside kettles, and for this they recruited their friend, musician Gary Coupland. The touring show eventually developed into a more plot-led piece of musical theatre and they began performing in large scale theatres across the country. Over the years the Singing Kettle have presented their own specially written shows including The Boogie Woogie Zoo, The Time Machine, Pirates, Wild West Show, Medieval Madness, World Tour, Funny Farm, and Homemade Band. Additionally some of their shows have raised awareness of important topics, notably road safety (Busy Road Show), good dental hygiene (Tooth Happy Songs) and pollution (one of the Adventures in Kettleland episodes).

Fun Factory (song)

"Fun Factory" was a single released by The Damned in 1990 on Deltic Records.

The band had split in 1989, but reformed shortly thereafter for touring. Captain Sensible was set to return, and sought the other band members' permission to reissue the track "Fun Factory", recorded in late 1982 (and featuring King Crimson's Robert Fripp on guitar), but shelved when The Damned's record company (Bronze Records) went bankrupt in early 1983. While it was not attached to any Damned album, it has been issued on several compilations.

The B-side was a solo track by Sensible, a remix of a track from his 1989 solo album Revolution Now. The bonus tracks on the 12" and CD singles were also solo Sensible works.
