Becky Mode

Becky Mode is an American playwright, actress and television producer based in New York City. Raised in Washington DC, she studied theater and American History at Wesleyan University, graduating with Phi Beta Kappa honors. Her major accomplishments to date include the play Fully Committed co-created with Mark Setlock which achieved listing in Time Magazine's Top Ten Plays of 2000. In addition, she appeared as an actress in the 1995 film Party Girl. Her credits also include several episodes of Smash (the NBC TV series) that she wrote (episodes 2x07;2x13).

Committed is a television sitcom that aired on NBC as a midseason replacement from January 4 to March 15, 2005. Although originally broadcast twice a week (on Tuesdays and Thursdays) the series eventually settled in a regular timeslot on Tuesdays at 9:30PM EST after Scrubs. The show starred Josh Cooke and Jennifer Finnigan and costarred Darius McCrary, Tammy Lynn Michaels and Tom Poston. Cooke and Finnigan played two single and extremely eccentric New Yorkers who are subject to constant interference when they begin dating from their equally eccentric friends and Finnigan's roommate, known only as "Dying Clown" or "Clown" who was actually a clown, played by Tom Poston.

The show ran for 13 episodes. Clips and fan-generated montages can still be found online, but no official DVDs have been produced.

Plot

The ever-optimistic Joline (Heather Graham) faces a challenge when her husband, flaky news photographer Carl (Luke Wilson), leaves her to find himself in Texas. Joline tracks Carl down and observes him, acquainting herself with his schedule and new friends, including his new girlfriend Carmen (Patricia Velásquez) and his quirky neighbor Niko (Goran Visnjic). Eventually Carl spots Joline, and Joline seeks new ways of returning Carl to her life, up to and including mystic remedies provided by Carmen's grandfather. Eventually Joline is committed, hence the title, and her belief in true and lasting love is broken... or is it?

Reception

Committed was nominated for the Golden Reel Award for Best Sound Editing and also for the Grand Jury Prize at the 2000 Sundance Film Festival. It won the award for Best Cinematography at Sundance. The film had only a limited opening.
