Fruitcake (or fruit cake) is a cake made with chopped candied fruit and/or dried fruit, nuts, and spices, and (occasionally) soaked in spirits. A cake that simply has fruit in it as an ingredient can also be colloquially called a fruit cake. In the United Kingdom, certain rich versions may be iced and decorated.
Fruit cakes are typically served in celebration of weddings and Christmas. Given their rich nature, fruit cake is most often consumed on its own, as opposed to with condiments (such as butter or cream).
The earliest recipe from ancient Rome lists pomegranate seeds, pine nuts, and raisins that were mixed into barley mash. In the Middle Ages, honey, spices, and preserved fruits were added.
Fruit cakes soon proliferated all over Europe. Recipes varied greatly in different countries throughout the ages, depending on the available ingredients as well as (in some instances) church regulations forbidding the use of butter, regarding the observance of fast. Pope Innocent VIII (1432–1492) finally granted the use of butter, in a written permission known as the ‘Butter Letter' or Butterbrief in 1490, giving permission to Saxony to use milk and butter in the North German Stollen fruit cakes.
Fruitcake EP is an EP released by the defunct Filipino alternative rock band Eraserheads released by Sony BMG Music Philippines Inc. (Formerly BMG Records Pilipinas, Inc.) in 1996 as a promotional material for the launching of their album Fruitcake in December 1996. The album contains three tracks that includes the band's well-known Christmas song "Fruitcake", "Old Fashioned Christmas Carol" and an unplugged version of the song "Christmas Alphabet".
The idea of having an EP being released first was opened after BMG Records ( Pilipinas ) reckoned Dec. 6 as the date of the release of the studio album because it's already too late to push a yuletide set.
The song "Fruitcake" was recorded in two versions having a different ending. Thus, the "standard" version can be heard on the EP while the "album" version can be heard on the album. "Old Fashioned Christmas Carol" was already recorded as part of the studio album. Both songs were recorded at Tracks Studio.
The last song on the EP was a live performance on NU107 in December 1994 with additional back-up vocals by Bobbit, Robert, Jeng, Dong, Laccay
John Samuel Waters, Jr. (born April 22, 1946) is an American film director, screenwriter, author, actor, stand-up comedian, journalist, visual artist, and art collector, who rose to fame in the early 1970s for his transgressive cult films. Waters's 1970s and early '80s films feature his regular troupe of actors known as the Dreamlanders—among them Divine, Mink Stole, David Lochary, Mary Vivian Pearce, and Edith Massey. Starting with Desperate Living (1977), Waters began casting real-life convicted criminals (Liz Renay, Patty Hearst) and controversial people (Traci Lords, a former pornographic actress).
Waters dabbled in mainstream filmmaking with Hairspray (1988), which introduced Ricki Lake and earned a modest gross of $8 million in the US. In 2002, Hairspray was adapted to a long-running Broadway musical, which itself was adapted to a hit musical film that earned more than $200 million worldwide. After the crossover success of the original film version of Hairspray, Waters' films began featuring familiar actors and celebrities such as Johnny Depp, Edward Furlong, Melanie Griffith, Chris Isaak, Johnny Knoxville, Martha Plimpton, Christina Ricci, Lili Taylor, Kathleen Turner, and Tracey Ullman.
Bring some bodies that smell like wine
Bring some fruitcake, bring some fruitcake
La,la,la,la,la,la,la,la
Bring some fruitcake, bring some fruitcake
La,la,la,la,la,la,la,la
I'd kiss a pirate if he'd cry
I'd kiss a pirate many times
Bring some fruitcake, bring some fruitcake
La,la,la,la,la,la,la,la
Just bring some fruitcake, bring some fruitcake
La,la,la,la,la,la,la,la
She's tired of breaking the face just for the sake of it
A little drop of this wine will make sure it hits
I've never been to the race but I imagine it's fun
I imagine it's fun
I'll leave a light on when it's time
Bring some bodies that smell like wine
Bring some fruitcake, bring some fruitcake
La,la,la,la,la,la,la,la
Just bring some fruitcake, bring some fruitcake
La,la,la,la,la,la,la,la
I'd kiss a pirate if he'd cry
I'd kiss a pirate many times
Bring some fruitcake, bring some fruitcake
La,la,la,la,la,la,la,la
Bring some fruitcake, bring some fruitcake
La,la,la,la,la,la,la,la
She's tired of breaking the face just for the sake of it
A little drop of this wine will make sure it hits
I've never been to the race but I imagine it's fun
