Frontline (U.S. TV series)

Frontline is a public affairs television program that produces and broadcasts in-depth documentaries about various subjects. Produced at WGBH-TV in Boston, Massachusetts and distributed through the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) in the United States, the program has been critically acclaimed and received numerous awards. Some programs are made by independent filmmakers and broadcast as part of the Frontline series. Since the series debut, there have been more than 500 films broadcast. Although primarily seen through television, the program shows a large portion of their shows in interactive webcasts on their main website.

Background

The program debuted in 1983, with NBC anchorwoman Jessica Savitch as its host, but Savitch died later in the first season. NewsHour's Judy Woodruff took over as anchor in 1984, and hosted the program for five years. In 1990, the show did away with the anchor position, and left the narrator to introduce each report.

Since 1988, Frontline has also aired "The Choice"—a series of special editions aired during the lead-up to presidential elections, focusing on the two candidates in the running to become President of the United States. The most recent of these aired on October 9, 2012, and featured a dual biography tracing the lives and careers of incumbent President Barack Obama and his challenger, Mitt Romney. The previous installment aired on October 14, 2008, using the same dual-biography format for Obama and John McCain. The 2008 documentary, produced by Michael Kirk, generated favorable reviews from The New York Times, which stated that the program helped viewers "gain perspective" about the "idea-oriented campaign," and The Los Angeles Times, which labeled it "refreshingly clear" and "informative".

PBS

The Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) is an American public broadcaster and television program distributor. Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, PBS is an independently operated non-profit organization and is the most prominent provider of television programs to public television stations in the United States, distributing series such as Keeping Up Appearances, BBC World News, NOVA scienceNOW, NOVA, Sesame Street, Doctor Who, PBS NewsHour, Walking with Dinosaurs, Masterpiece, Nature, American Masters, Frontline, and Antiques Roadshow.

Since the mid-2000s Roper polls commissioned by PBS have consistently placed the service as the most-trusted national institution in the United States. However, PBS is not responsible for all programming carried on public television stations, a large proportion of which (including most specials aired during multi-annually pledge drives) come from third-party sources, including member stations (such as WGBH, WETA-TV, WNET, WTTW National Productions), American Public Television and independent producers. This distinction is a frequent source of viewer confusion.

PBS 106.7FM

PBS 106.7FM (call sign: 3PBS), also known as the Progressive Broadcasting Service, is a co-operatively owned community radio station in Melbourne, Australia, that broadcasts on 106.7FM, Digital radio and online. In 2009 PBS celebrated its 30th year of broadcast.

History

During 1975 Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) student campus station 3ST applied to the Broadcasting Control Board for a restricted commercial AM licence. The application was done under the name of the SRNA, with 3ST, 3CT, 3MU and newly formed 3SW (Swinburne University). The application was unsuccessful and the licence went to 3CR.

In 1976 Felix Hofmann, who had no affiliation with any broadcasting radio station, called a meeting of interested parties to establish an FM radio station for "progressive music". It was not practical to hold this meeting at his parent's home in St Kilda East so it was held at 1 Baldwin Street, Armadale in a house shared by Rosalie Brookes, Jane Henderson, another student and Garry Page. To publicise the meeting Felix Hofmann used a press story in "The Southern Cross" newspaper and an advertisement in "The Toorak Times" newspaper; while Garry Page, as a former member of 3ST, extended personal invitations to other 3ST members such as John Maizels and Barry Bron and also posted notices at the 3CR and 3ST studios.

Sodium perborate

Sodium perborate (PBS) is a white, odorless, water-soluble chemical compound with the chemical formula NaBO₃. It crystallizes as the monohydrate, NaBO₃·H₂O, trihydrate, NaBO₃·3H₂O and tetrahydrate, NaBO₃·4H₂O. The monohydrate and tetrahydrate are the commercially important forms. The elementary structural unit of sodium perborates is a dimer anion B₂O₄(OH)₄²⁻, in which two boron atoms are joined by two peroxo bridges in a chair-shaped 6-membered ring, and the simplistic NaBO₃·nH₂O-type formulas are just a convenient way to express the average chemical composition.

Preparation and chemistry

Sodium perborate is manufactured by reaction of disodium tetraborate pentahydrate, hydrogen peroxide, and sodium hydroxide. The monohydrate form dissolves better than the tetrahydrate and has higher heat stability; it is prepared by heating the tetrahydrate. Sodium perborate undergoes hydrolysis in contact with water, producing hydrogen peroxide and borate.

Structure

Unlike sodium percarbonate and perphosphate, the sodium perborate is not simply an adduct with hydrogen peroxide, and it does not contain an individual BO₃⁻ ion. Rather, there is a cyclic dimer anion B₂O₄(OH)₄²⁻, in which two boron atoms are joined by two peroxo bridges in a chair-shaped 6-membered ring. This makes the substance more stable, and safer for handling and storage. The formula of the sodium salt is thus Na₂H₄B₂O₈.

Frontline are a New Zealand hip hop music group formed in 2001.

History

The New Zealand hip hop group known as 'Frontline' is a two man hip hop team: Samoan-European MC David Dallas (also known as Con Psy) and producer and DJ Nick Maclaren DJ 41:30. Con Psy won the 2003 Auckland MC Battle For Supremacy and 41 has won the 2000 Auckland ITF Championships.

After meeting in 2001 in Auckland, the pair formed some tracks together & released a mixtape What You Expect?. During this time Maclaren produced tracks for the likes of the Deceptikonz, Mareko and more while Dallas completed a BSc in computing. Without any formal broadcasting or distribution, it sold over 1000 copies.

The duo hooked up with premier New Zealand DJ P Money (also known as Peter Wadams).He signed Frontline to his co-owned record label Dirty Records. He then offered Dallas' skills to Scribe's multi#1 single "Not Many-The Remix!" featured on Scribe's five times platinum album The Crusader.

In 2004, P-Money's second album Magic City saw three appearances by Dallas; "Get Up Slow", "Get Back" (also featuring Dirty Records labelmate PNC) & "321 Remix" (also featuring Skillz & PNC). He also appears on the Breakin Wreckwordz mixtapes Breakin Wreckwordz Vol 1. & Fuck Music, Sirvere's Major Flavours collective & Breakinwreck artist Louie Knuxx's album Wasted Youth. 41 produced PNC's mixtape Ohhhhh On The PNC Tip.

Frontline (season 2)

This is a list of the 13 episodes of series two of Frontline, which first aired in 1995. In series 2, Frontline (the fictional show-within-the-show) struggles with ratings, and the network's varying attempts to heighten the ratings. The series is shot in mockumentary style. All of the show's episodes were written and directed by Rob Sitch (Mike Moore), Jane Kennedy (Brooke Vandenberg), Santo Cilauro (Geoffrey Salter) – who also did most of the camera work – and Tom Gleisner.

Frontline (The Bill)

"Frontline" was a three-part storyline in the long-running police procedural British television series The Bill. Broadcast in 2008, the storyline is significant in the show's history as it involved a series of bombings in and around Sun Hill, which resulted in the death of PC Emma Keane. Three major events occur across the storyline: PCs Armstrong, Gayle, Fletcher and Sgt. Stone's gang is found out by PC Keane, who does not agree with their techniques, Keane is later killed in a bomb blast, and DI Karen Lacy makes her debut and departure in three episodes.
