Rusty (film series)

The Rusty films were a series of eight children's movies made in America in the 1940s by Columbia Pictures. The films presented stories about a group of young children and their dog named Rusty. Though the films were B-movies primarily shown as the second half of a double-bill, the films usually had a humanist sub-text and subtly promoted positive values on social issues of the era. Among the directors of the series was John Sturges who subsequently became famous for directing The Magnificent Seven, The Great Escape, and Gunfight at the O.K. Corral. Among the regular cast members was child actor David Ackles who appeared in six of the eight films. Ackles subsequently achieved critical acclaim as a singer-songwriter in the 1960s and 1970s lionized by Elton John and Elvis Costello.

Narrow gauge engines (Thomas & Friends)

In Thomas & Friends, the Island of Sodor is home to a narrow gauge railway in the hills. These lines and the engines who work on them are some of the oldest on the island. The narrow gauge railway has some contact with The Fat Controller's standard gauge engines, but the location of the railway leaves the little engines in relative isolation.

Victor

Victor is a dark red Hispanic tank engine in charge of the Sodor Steamworks. He supervises all the engines who journey in and out of the workshops, as well as Kevin, the clumsy yard crane. Victor always has a helpful, constructive disposition and is good-humored with everyone he meets. He speaks with a Cuban accent and spoke Spanish when he first came to Sodor.

Victor was introduced in the feature-length special Hero of the Rails. The show's staff were researching real-life engine workshops as inspiration for the Steamworks when they learned that one had a self-contained narrow-gauge line, used to transport parts internally. The staff decided they wanted an engine with a cab, and chose as a prototype ALCo's #1173, which was specially built for a sugar plantation line in Cuba. Some artistic licence was taken, as the original #1173 is a standard gauge locomotive. Victor made multiple further appearances in the thirteenth series, and has appeared in every series and special since.

Friends (Chick Corea album)

Friends is an album recorded and released by Chick Corea in 1978.

The album does away with the string and horn sections of previous albums, instead focusing on a quartet with straight-ahead jazz in mind. The album cover features the Smurfs; a somewhat rare alternative cover replaces the Smurfs with porcelain animals, possibly for copyright reasons.

This album is one of three that Corea released in 1978, along with The Mad Hatter and Secret Agent. 1978 also featured the release of live albums An Evening With Herbie Hancock & Chick Corea: In Concert and RTF Live with Return to Forever.

Friends was nominated for, and received the 1979 Grammy award for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Group.

Friends (Swedish band)

Friends was a Swedish dansband or pop group formed in 1999 and made up of Stefan Brunzell, Tony Haglund, Kristian Hermanson, Nina Inhammar, Kim Kärnfalk and Peter Strandberg. They were put together from auditions on the reality television show Friends på turne (Friends on Tour), made by Bert Karlsson for TV4. The show was a success and Friends competed on Melodifestivalen 2000, reaching second place. They won Melodifestivalen 2001 with "Lyssna till ditt hjärta" and represented Sweden at the Eurovision Song Contest 2001 with the English version of the song, "Listen To Your Heartbeat" wearing sexy, tight, leather fitted clothing. Prior to the Eurovision performance, the Swedish delegation was forced to pay royalties to the team behind "Liefde is een kaartspel", an earlier Belgian entry, making the song the first admitted case of plagiarism in Eurovision history.

The band split in 2002, with Inhammar and Kärnfalk forming their own duo Nina & Kim, which continued until 2006, after which Kärnfalk continued as a solo artist.

Gwibber

Gwibber /ˈɡwɪbər/ is a microblogging client for the GNOME desktop environment. It brings the most popular social networking services like Facebook, Twitter, etc. into a single window and gives ability to control communication through one single application. It was created by Ryan Paul, a writer for Ars Technica.

It only runs on Linux and is written in Python using PyGTK. It ships with Ubuntu 10.04 and above. Gwibber supports multiple social networking sites in a combined social stream with URL shortening, saved searches, and a multicolumn UI.

In 2013 it was renamed to Friends and the frontend was rewritten in QML.
