Freestyle (comics)

Jocelyn Davis also known as Freestyle is a character from the comic book series DV8. She first had a background appearance in Gen¹³ #7, by Brandon Choi, Jim Lee and J. Scott Campbell, but her character was named and fully revealed by Mike Heisler and Juvann Kirby in DV8 #11

Fictional character biography

Little of Freestyle's past is known, but it has been revealed that she is the fifth of seven children and that she grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. To help make herself stand out in a large family, Jocelyn took up gymnastics. She excelled at the sport and was already a highly skilled gymnast before being a part of Project: Genesis.

Jocelyn was tested "gen-positive" and taken to Project:Genesis, a project funded by International Operations with the goal to create superpowered soldiers under their control. Using activator drugs, the gen-positive subjects were turned Gen-Active and immediately cryogenically frozen. Jocelyn's powers, being more subtle than those of other Gen-Actives, activated without the project's managers noticing, but when the guards came for Gen-Actives Evo and Sublime, Jocelyn tried to use her powers to escape. The guards hit her with an electroshock gun and froze her as well. Shortly afterwards the actions of John Lynch and Gen¹³ forced Project Genesis Director Ivana Baiul to flee, taking the frozen Gen-Actives with her.

Coca-Cola Freestyle

Coca-Cola Freestyle is a touch screen soda fountain introduced by The Coca-Cola Company in 2009. The machine features 165 different Coca-Cola drink products, and custom flavors. The machine allows users to select from mixtures of flavors of Coca-Cola branded products which are then individually dispensed. The machines are currently located in major Coca-Cola partners and retail locations as a part of a gradual and ongoing deployment.

Design

The cabinetry was designed by the Italian automotive design firm Pininfarina, via their Pininfarina Extra industrial and product design subsidiary. Technologies involved include microdispensing technology and proprietary PurePour technology. Both technologies were originally developed to deliver precise doses of drugs. One Freestyle unit with a similar footprint to a current vending machine can dispense 126 kinds of carbonated and non-carbonated beverages. Microdosing blends one or more concentrated ingredients in 46 US fl oz (1.36 L) packets with water and sweetener at the point where the beverage is dispensed, thus avoiding the use of traditional 5 US gal (18.9 L) boxes of syrup (also known as a bag-in-a-box). Cartridges store concentrated ingredients in the dispenser cabinet and are RFID enabled. The machine uses RFID chips to detect its supplies and to radio resupplying needs to other units. The machines transmit supply and demand data to both Coca-Cola and the owner including brands sold, times of the day of sales, troubleshooting information, and service data. The traditional ice cube dispenser remains.

Arsonists (hip hop group)

Arsonists are an underground hip hop group. Their album, As the World Burns (1999), reached No. 78 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums; its single, "Pyromaniax", reached No. 43 on Billboard's Hot Rap Singles chart.

History

The group was formed with five members in 1993 in Bushwick, Brooklyn, New York, as Bushwick Bomb Squad. The main members were Q-Unique, D-Stroy, Freestyle, Swel Boogie and Jise One, although the number of members eventually grew to eight. Q-Unique was a member of New York City's well-known breakdancing crew, the Rock Steady Crew. The group released a single, "The Session", in 1996, which was played on New York radio stations and brought offers from record labels. They signed with the independent label Fondle 'Em Records and changed their name to the Arsonists. They released their first album, As the World Burns, in 1999 on Matador Records, an indie rock label that ventured into hip hop music for the release. The album received critical acclaim, but did not achieve mainstream commercial success; it reached No. 78 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. They appeared on the final album by the digital hardcore band Atari Teenage Riot, 60 Second Wipeout, that year. The group went from five members down to three: Q-Unique, Jise One and Swel Boogie, for their follow-up album, Date of Birth in 2001. With their live performances, the group is known to be very varied in its rap style, drawing on many old school hip hop and east coast hip hop influences. Kansas City's alternative weekly newspaper, The Pitch, described them as "one of the best live bands in hip-hop" in 2001. On 18 August 2011, Arsonists played the first show in 11 years that had all four members on stage at Hip Hop Kemp in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic.
