This is a list of characters in the Garfield comic strip, created by Jim Davis. It includes notable characters from the comic strip as well as cartoons, and movies centered on the Garfield character, and is organized by what medium they appeared in first.

Garfield

Garfield is the strip's title character. He is a lazy, fat orange tabby. He is usually depicted eating or sleeping. His favorite food is lasagna. Hates Mondays, spiders and raisins. Loves bullying Odie and mailing Nermal to Abu Dhabi.

Jon Arbuckle

First Appearance: June 19, 1978

Jonathan Quincy "Jon" Arbuckle is the owner of Garfield and Odie.

Odie

First Appearance: August 8, 1978

Odie is a yellow dog, also owned by Jon. He was initially owned by Jon's roommate, Lyman (see below), but later became Jon's dog.

Dr. Liz Wilson

First Appearance: June 26, 1979

Latest Appearance: January 24, 2016

Dr. Elizabeth "Liz" Wilson is Garfield's veterinarian and a long-time crush of Jon Arbuckle. Although she has a deadpan, sardonic persona, she finds Jon's outlandish and goofball behavior endearing on occasion. Jon often attempts to ask her out on a date, but rarely succeeds; however, in an extended story arc from June 20 to July 29, 2006, Liz finally admitted she was in love with him which led to Liz becoming established as the 4th main character. The two have been portrayed as a couple since. In the film Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties Jon asks Liz to marry him and she accepts; they become engaged. However, this is not mentioned in or connected to the strips. Even though Garfield rarely sees her at the veterinary clinic, Liz nags Garfield to lose weight and reject junk food at home. However, Liz still does bring food that Garfield likes to the house and Garfield happily benefits from this.

The Magic School Bus

The Magic School Bus is an edutainment multimedia franchise that consists of a book series, a TV series, and several video games among other things. Each of the stories within the franchise centers on the antics of a fictional elementary school teacher, Ms. Valerie Frizzle, and her class, who board an anthropomorphic Type A school bus, which takes them on field trips to impossible locations, such as the solar system, clouds, the past, and the human body. The class pet Liz, a lizard, accompanies the class on their field trips.

History

The first media in which this franchise was developed was the Magic School Bus book series. Craig Walker, vice-president and senior editorial director at Scholastic Co., stated that the concept began with the idea of combining science with fictional stories, and Joanna Cole (who had written both science and humor before) and Bruce Degen were then approached with creating such a series. Walker also states that his own memories of school field trips and of a teacher he had once, served as further inspiration. The first book "At the Waterworks" was written in 1985 and published the following year. The books are written in the first person from the point of view of an unnamed student in "the Friz's" class. Cole and Degen started a new series called Ms. Frizzle's Adventures in 2001, which teaches social studies, eventually producing three books in that series. Microsoft Home started publishing Magic School Bus software in 1994.

Free fall

In Newtonian physics, free fall is any motion of a body where gravity is the only force acting upon it. In the context of general relativity, where gravitation is reduced to a space-time curvature, a body in free fall has no force acting on it and moves along a geodesic. The present article only concerns itself with free fall in the Newtonian domain.

An object in the technical sense of free fall may not necessarily be falling down in the usual sense of the term. An object moving upwards would not normally be considered to be falling, but if it is subject to the force of gravity only, it is said to be in free fall. The moon is thus in free fall.

In a uniform gravitational field, in the absence of any other forces, gravitation acts on each part of the body equally and this is weightlessness, a condition that also occurs when the gravitational field is zero (such as when far away from any gravitating body). A body in free fall experiences "0 g".

The term "free fall" is often used more loosely than in the strict sense defined above. Thus, falling through an atmosphere without a deployed parachute, or lifting device, is also often referred to as free fall. The aerodynamic drag forces in such situations prevent them from producing full weightlessness, and thus a skydiver's "free fall" after reaching terminal velocity produces the sensation of the body's weight being supported on a cushion of air.

List of Miami Vice episodes

The following is an episode list for the 1980s' undercover cop television series Miami Vice. In the United States, the show was aired on NBC. The first episode of the series premiered on September 16, 1984 with the series concluding on May 21, 1989 after five seasons. Though the series concluded on May 21, 1989, NBC aired three more episodes after the series finale, and USA Network aired a fourth post-series finale episode, thus concluding the series on January 25, 1990. There are a total of 111 episodes, spanning five years (1984–1989) of the show's run. The individual seasons are available on DVD in Regions 1, 2 and 4.

Season 1: 1984–1985

Season one of Miami Vice premiered on September 16, 1984 with the two hour pilot premiere on NBC and concluded on May 10, 1985, after 22 episodes. Regular cast members included Don Johnson, Philip Michael Thomas, Saundra Santiago, Gregory Sierra, Michael Talbott, John Diehl, Olivia Brown, and Edward James Olmos.

Freefall (1994 film)

Freefall is a 1994 action film starring Eric Roberts, Jeff Fahey and Pamela Gidley. It is directed by John Irvin, written and produced by David Zito and Les Weldon.

The story tells about undercover INTERPOL agent Grant Orion (Roberts), who, after recently being falsely accused of a crime, attempts to prove his innocence to wildlife photographer Katy Mazur (Gidley) while rescuing her from an assassin organisation led by her fiancé Dex Dellum (Fahey).

Originally intended for a theatrical release, the movie was released straight to VHS in the United States by Vidmark Entertainment and in Canada that same year by Cineplex Odeon. In 2002, Platinum Disc released a DVD of the film.
