Payne (name)

The surname Payne originates in France and is a variation of the name Payen (Payen; Payens). It is one of the most revered and ancient surnames of the noblesse families of France. The original family lived in Payen, Normandy, where they held family seats in Payen and Dauphine. During the Norman Conquest of England and the great migration, members of this family migrated to England and Europe. It is these ancestors that the generations of Paynes that spread out across the world are descendant from. Upon migrating to England, the Payn's were then granted lands and a family seat in Sussex by Duke William Of Normandy for their distinguished assistance in the battle of Hastings. The first record of Paynes outside France was in England in the Domesday Book shortly after the Norman Conquest. The Paynes are traditionally a Catholic family although many have attempted to draw a loose connection with the Latin paganus = pagan due to the Old English word paien being derived from the Latin word Paganus . There is no hard evidence to support this theory.

Essentra Packaging is a multinational manufacturer of pressure-sensitive tear tape, labels, closures and seals for the packaging and labeling industry. It is also part of the Packaging & Securing Solutions division of Essentra.

History

P.P. Payne was founded in 1911 by Percy Philip Payne, manufacturing cotton tapes for the local textile industry. In the 1950s the business developed Rippatape, the first tear tape based on cotton fibres, used for easy opening of boxes and sacks. P.P. Payne went on to develop self-adhesive tear tapes which became popular for cigarette packaging and was acquired by Bunzl in 1996 as a consequence of the group's growing success in filter production. PP Payne was demerged from Bunzl in 2005 and formed part of the Filtrona group where it was renamed to Payne. In 2010 the company expanded its product portfolio through acquisition of Cardiff-based BP Labels. In early 2013, Filtrona plc completed the acquisition of Contego Healthcare, which was incorporated into the Coated & Security Products Division of the Company.

A wide variety of political pundits also use the service for political commentary, particularly in Russia, where it partners with the online newspaper Gazeta.ru. As with many other social networks, a wide variety of public figures use the network.

LiveJournal was started on April 15, 1999 by American programmer Brad Fitzpatrick as a way of keeping his high school friends updated on his activities. In January 2005, blogging software company Six Apart purchased Danga Interactive, the company that operated LiveJournal, from Fitzpatrick. Six Apart sold LiveJournal to Russian media company SUP Media in 2007, but continued to develop the site by the San Francisco-based company LiveJournal, Inc. In January 2009 LiveJournal laid off some employees and moved product development and design functions to Russia.

Beyond the Black Stump (comic strip)

Beyond the Black Stump is an Australian comic strip written by Sean Leahy. It debuted in 1988 and won the "Best Comic Strip" at the 2003 National Coffs Harbour Cartoon Awards and the "Comic Strip Cartoonist of the Year" at the Australian Cartoonist's Association's Stanley Award the same year.

The strip follows a cast of Australian wildlife who deal with the day-to-day stresses of marriage, parenting and friendship.
