Frank Allan

Francis Erskine "Frank" Allan (2 December 1849 in Allansford, Victoria, Australia – 9 February 1917 in Melbourne) was an Australian cricketer who played in one Test in 1879.

In February 1869, Allan made his first-class debut for Victoria in an intercolonial match against New South Wales. Allan and Victorian captain Tom Wills obliterated the New South Wales batsmen with 8/20 in the first innings and 7/44 in the second innings respectively, securing Victoria's 78-run win. Allan's successes in intercolonial cricket earned him the sobriquet "the bowler of a century".

Allan was probably past his best by the time Test cricket arrived but had a reputation as a superb medium pace bowler (though would probably be more regarded as a spin bowler in modern cricket).

On the Australians tour of 1878 to England, Allan produced some excellent spells of bowling to take over 200 wickets in all games on the tour. However he was troubled by bouts of sickness from the point of arrival in England as he struggled to adjust to the cold weather.

Frank Allan (bishop)

Frank Kellogg Allan (May 9, 1935 – ), was the 8th bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta, consecrated as Bishop Coadjutor on February 7, 1987, and as Diocesan Bishop on January 1, 1989.

Background

Frank K. Allan was born in Hammond, Indiana, on May 9, 1935. He graduated from Emory University in 1956. In 1959, he received his Master of Divinity from the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

He was ordained as Deacon and later as Priest by Bishop Randolph R. Claiborne, Jr. in 1959. He served at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Dalton, Georgia, Dalton, Georgia for eight years. In 1967, Allan became rector of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Macon, Georgia in Macon, Georgia, where he served until 1977. From St. Paul's, Allan went to St. Anne's Episcopal Church, Atlanta, Atlanta.

In 1987, Bishop C. Judson Child consecrated Allan as Bishop Coadjutor for the Diocese of Atlanta. When Bishop Child retired, Bishop Allan became Bishop of Atlanta per the Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church (1989).
