Fran Kirby

Francesca "Fran" Kirby (born 29 June 1993) is an English professional footballer who plays as a forward for Chelsea and the England national team.

Club career

Kirby joined her hometown club Reading at the age of seven and worked her way through the youth teams. She made her debut for the first team at the age of sixteen but quit football the following year after an onset of depression. Kirby returned to the club in 2012 and went on to become the FA Women's Premier League Southern Division's top scorer for the 2012-13 season, with 32 goals in twenty-one appearances.

With Reading promoted to the newly formed Women's Super League 2 for 2014, Kirby helped the team achieve third place with 24 goals in sixteen appearances. She ended the season as the league's top goalscorer; netting four against London Bees, as well as hat-tricks against Durham, Watford and Doncaster Rovers Belles. Shortly after, she became the first player to receive a professional contract from the club. At the 2014 FA Women's Awards, Kirby was named the inaugural WSL2 Players' Player of the Year.

Fran is a 1985 Australian film directed by Glenda Hambly, with Noni Hazlehurst in the title role. Fran is a mother who abandons her children in favour of a romantic life after her husband leaves her. It was filmed in Perth, Western Australia, Australia.

Plot

Fran (Noni Hazlehurst) is a likeably vivacious but irresponsible mother of three children, each from a different relationship. She is a product of the welfare system and several foster homes, and of an alcoholic mother and a father she never knew. Passionate about protecting her children from the community welfare authorities, whom she paints as the enemy, she nevertheless fails to do so.
Fran's own self-esteem requires a man in her life and, after the violent end of one relationship, she desperately picks up Jeff (Alan Fletcher), a wayward barman. To secure her relationship with Jeff, she holidays with him, deserting her children, who become wards of the state. It is claimed that Jeff has sexually interfered with Fran's eldest daughter, Lisa (Narelle Simpson).

Fran is a graphic novel by American cartoonist Jim Woodring released in 2013. The wordless book is the third Frank graphic novel, following Weathercraft (2010) and Congress of the Animals (2011). After the anthropomorphic Frank violently loses his self-control with his secretive female counterpart Fran, whom he discovered at the end of Congress of the Animals, she leaves him, and he sets out in search of her.
