Silhouette

A silhouette is the image of a person, animal, object or scene represented as a solid shape of a single color, usually black, its edges matching the outline of the subject. The interior of a silhouette is featureless, and the whole is typically presented on a light background, usually white, or none at all. The silhouette differs from an outline, which depicts the edge of an object in a linear form, while a silhouette appears as a solid shape. Silhouette images may be created in any visual artistic media, but was first used to describe pieces of cut paper, which were then stuck to a backing in a contrasting colour, and often framed.

Cutting portraits, generally in profile, from black card became popular in the mid-18th century, though the term silhouette was seldom used until the early decades of the 19th century, and the tradition has continued under this name into the 21st century. They represented a cheap but effective alternative to the portrait miniature, and skilled specialist artists could cut a high-quality bust portrait, by far the most common style, in a matter of minutes, working purely by eye. Other artists, especially from about 1790, drew an outline on paper, then painted it in, which could be equally quick. The leading 18th-century English "profilist" in painting, John Miers, advertised "three minute sittings", and the cost might be as low as half a crown around 1800. Miers' superior products could be in grisaille, with delicate highlights added in gold or yellow, and some examples might be painted on various backings, including gesso, glass or ivory. The size was normally small, with many designed to fit into a locket, but otherwise a bust some 3 to 5 inches high was typical, with half- or full-length portraits proportionately larger.

The Midsummer Station

The Midsummer Station is the fourth studio album by American electronica project Owl City, released on August 17, 2012.

Writing and development

After Owl City's previous album, All Things Bright and Beautiful (2011) sold only 143,000 copies in the United States, Adam Young began working on demo tracks for The Midsummer Station in January 2012. Unlike his previous albums, Young worked with different songwriters and producers for the first time, including Stargate and Emily Wright. However, Young again collaborated with Matthew Thiessen for his third album in a row along with Ocean Eyes and All Things Bright and Beautiful. Young was initially scared of the thought of collaborating with others, "I've never worked with anybody before. I've done everything myself except for mastering. It's a big job for one guy, especially a perfectionist, so I knew I wanted to try to experiment with other people." The song "Dementia", which features Blink-182 singer Mark Hoppus, was mixed by Chris Lord-Alge.

Silhouette (comics)

Silhouette (Silhouette Chord) is a fictional character, a superheroine in the Marvel Comics Universe. She first appeared in New Warriors (vol. 1) #2, (August 1990), and was created by Fabian Nicieza and Mark Bagley. Silhouette and her brother Aaron Chord (Midnight's Fire) are mutants.

Origin

In 1966 during the Vietnam War, an American recon patrol in Cambodia stumbled upon an ancient hidden temple of a cult known as the Dragon's Breath, which had remained hidden for centuries. It had been built upon a well-spring of raw, primal energy called the "Well of All Things." The inhabitants decided to breed a superior race that would one day unite with the ways of the west. They believed that this union would produce children capable of harnessing the power of the Well. The members of the recon patrol were to be the fathers of these children; one of these men was Andrew Chord, the man who would become Silhouette's father.

Midnight's Fire/Paralyzed

Silhouette and her brother Aaron (Midnight's Fire) are the only children of Andrew Chord, the former guardian of Dwayne Taylor (Night Thrasher) and his wife Miyami (Tai's only daughter), and were born in New York City. Silhouette and Midnight's Fire were operating as independent vigilantes in the streets of New York, when they met Dwayne (before he had become Night Thrasher), and the three began an organized effort to take down various New York City criminal street gangs. She began a romance with Night Thrasher during this time.

Foxes!

Foxes! are a British indie pop rock band who originally formed in Oxford, England before relocating to Brighton, England. They consist of drummer/singer Kayla Bell and her husband Adam Bell on guitar/vocals with multi-instrumentalists Alan Grice and Matthew Twaites.The Guardian wrote that 'Foxes! episodic jangly pop may represent the first attempt in musical history to wrangle winsome C86 indie with prog rock'.

Band formation

The band was formed in Oxford in 2005, by Adam and Kayla Bell along with founding member Daniel Pacrami. Whilst in Oxford the band released two homemade demo EPs entitled '46a Appleside Drive' and 'Hellomynameishenry'. Their second EP was awarded Demo of the Month in Oxford's Nightshift magazine in April 2007.

Later releases

The band released a single 'Who Killed Rob?' on short-lived independent record label CatCutter Records on 31 May 2009, and completed a UK and Californian tour with US girl surf pop band The Hot Toddies the same year.

A new EP surfaced on Spanish label Elefant Records in April 2011. The lead track on the EP was entitled The Panda Bear Song and was released on limited edition brown coloured 7" vinyl as part of Elefant's New Adventures in Pop series.

Fox

Foxes are small-to-medium-sized, omnivorous mammals belonging to several genera of the family Canidae. Foxes are slightly smaller than a medium-size domestic dog, with a flattened skull, upright triangular ears, a pointed, slightly upturned snout, and a long bushy tail (or brush).

Twelve species belong to the monophyletic group of Vulpes genus of "true foxes". Approximately another 25 current or extinct species are always or sometimes called foxes; these foxes are either part of the paraphyletic group of the South American foxes, or of the outlying group, which consists of bat-eared fox, gray fox, and island fox. Foxes are found on every continent except Antarctica. By far the most common and widespread species of fox is the red fox (Vulpes vulpes) with about 47 recognized subspecies. The global distribution of foxes, together with their widespread reputation for cunning, has contributed to their prominence in popular culture and folklore in many societies around the world. The hunting of foxes with packs of hounds, long an established pursuit in Europe, especially in the British Isles, was exported by European settlers to various parts of the New World.

Foxes (singer)

Louisa Rose Allen (born 29 April 1989), better known by her stage name, Foxes, is an English singer and songwriter. Her vocals featured on Zedd's 2013 single "Clarity", which peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and won a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording.

Foxes' debut album, Glorious, was released in the United Kingdom in 2014 and features the top 20 singles "Youth", "Let Go for Tonight" and "Holding onto Heaven". Her second album, All I Need, was released on 5 February 2016. The album includes the singles "Body Talk", "Better Love" and "Amazing".

Early life and education

Allen was born in Southampton, Hampshire and grew up in the city's Swaythling and St Denys areas. She attended St Denys Primary School, Cantell School, and Eastleigh College. She started writing music when she was 14 years old and reached the final of a local talent competition in 2009. At 18 years old, she considered training as a beauty therapist, but her sister persuaded her to move to London to pursue her singing ambitions. She attended the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance but dropped out, preferring to write and perform music than study it.
