Forth (album)

Forth is the fourth and final studio album by the English alternative rock band The Verve. It was released internationally on 25 August 2008 on EMI, and a day later in North America on the On Your Own label. The band reformed in 2007, having broken up in 1999. Forth is their first album of new material since their 1997 album Urban Hymns.

The album's first single, "Love Is Noise", received its first airplay on BBC Radio 1 on 23 June 2008. The song reached No. 4 on the UK Singles Chart and became a summer hit in Europe. The band also released a non-album track, "Mover", as a free digital download a week later.

Background

The band recorded new songs in Richmond between 2007 and 2008. Most of the backing tracks were done before touring the UK in November and December. Then, recording continued between February and the start of their summer dates in April and some final work was done after the mini US-tour done between April and May before their summer festival appearances in Europe and Japan. Jonathan Cohen of Billboard states that Forth is "[A] bracing blend of the experimentalism of the group's early work and the more structured songwriting of its last two efforts."

! is an album by The Dismemberment Plan. It was released on October 2, 1995, on DeSoto Records. The band's original drummer, Steve Cummings, played on this album but left shortly after its release.

Album

Albums of recorded music were developed in the early 20th century, first as books of individual 78rpm records, then from 1948 as vinyl LP records played at 33 ¹⁄₃ rpm. Vinyl LPs are still issued, though in the 21st century albums sales have mostly focused on compact disc (CD) and MP3 formats. The audio cassette was a format used in the late 1970s through to the 1990s alongside vinyl.

An album may be recorded in a recording studio (fixed or mobile), in a concert venue, at home, in the field, or a mix of places. Recording may take a few hours to several years to complete, usually in several takes with different parts recorded separately, and then brought or "mixed" together. Recordings that are done in one take without overdubbing are termed "live", even when done in a studio. Studios are built to absorb sound, eliminating reverberation, so as to assist in mixing different takes; other locations, such as concert venues and some "live rooms", allow for reverberation, which creates a "live" sound. The majority of studio recordings contain an abundance of editing, sound effects, voice adjustments, etc. With modern recording technology, musicians can be recorded in separate rooms or at separate times while listening to the other parts using headphones; with each part recorded as a separate track.

Forth (1826 ship)

The Forth was a 369-ton sailing ship built in 1826 at Leith, Scotland.

On her first convict voyage, under the command of J. Robertson and surgeon J. Cook, she sailed from Cork, Ireland on 3 June 1830, with 120 female convicts. Forth arrived at Port Jackson on 12 October 1830. No convicts died on the voyage. Forth left Port Jackson on 20 February 1831 bound for London with a cargo of merchandise. During her second convict voyage, under the command of Henry Hutton and surgeon Thomas Robertson, she sailed from Cork, Ireland on 21 October 1834, with 196 male convicts. Forth arrived at Port Jackson on 3 February 1835. One male convict died on the voyage. Forth left Port Jackson on 28 February 1835 bound for Manilla in ballast.

River Forth

The River Forth (Gaelic: Abhainn Dubh, meaning "black river", in the upper reach above Stirling, and Uisge For in the tidal reach below Stirling), 47 km (29 mi) long, is the major river draining the eastern part of the central belt of Scotland.

The Forth rises in Loch Ard in the Trossachs, a mountainous area some 30 km (19 mi) west of Stirling. It flows roughly eastward, through Aberfoyle, joining with the Duchray Water and Kelty Water, and out over the flat expanse of the Flanders Moss. It is then joined by the River Teith (which itself drains Loch Venachar, Loch Lubnaig, Loch Katrine, and Loch Voil) and the River Allan, before meandering through the ancient city of Stirling. At Stirling the river widens and becomes tidal, and it is here that the last (seasonal) ford of the river exists. From Stirling, the Forth flows east over the Carse of Stirling and past the towns of Cambus (where it is joined by the river Devon), Alloa, Fallin and Airth. Upon reaching Kincardine the river begins to widen into an estuary, the Firth of Forth.

The Forth was a 397-ton sailing ship built in 1814 at Calcutta, British India.

Under the command of David Proudfoot and surgeon William Clifford, she sailed from Cork, Ireland on 1 January 1830, with 118 male convicts. Forth arrived at Port Jackson on 20 April 1830. Three male convicts died on the voyage. Forth left Port Jackson on 13 June 1830 bound for Singapore and Calcutta.
