Exile

Exile means to be away from one's home (i.e. city, state or country), while either being explicitly refused permission to return and/or being threatened with imprisonment or death upon return. It can be a form of punishment and solitude. It is common to distinguish between internal exile, i.e., forced resettlement within the country of residence, and external exile, deportation outside the country of residence. Although most commonly used to describe an individual situation, the term is also used for groups (especially ethnic or national groups), or for an entire government. Terms such as diaspora and refugee describe group exile, both voluntary and forced, and government in exile describes a government of a country that has been forced to relocate and argue its legitimacy from outside that country. Exile can also be a self-imposed departure from one's homeland. Self-exile is often depicted as a form of protest by the person that claims it, to avoid persecution or legal matters (such as tax or criminal allegations), an act of shame or repentance, or isolating oneself to be able to devote time to a particular pursuit. Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights states that "No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile."

Exile (producer)

Aleksander Manfredi, better known by his stage name Exile, is an American hip hop DJ, producer and occasional rapper.

Career

His first record appearances were as a member of the hip hop duo Emanon with the rapper Aloe Blacc. They released various mixtapes, beginning in 1995 with "Stretch Marx" before releasing their first album, Anon & On. After 2002, Exile went on to release one more Emanon album, The Waiting Room (2005), a solo album, Dirty Science (2006), and another collaborative effort with the rapper Blu, Below the Heavens (2007). Exile released two more solo albums, Radio in 2009 and 4TRK Mind in 2011. 2013 saw the release of his instrumental album, Zip Disks & Floppies.

Style and influences

Exile is known for "coarsely chopped beats" that give off "laid back soulful vibes". He claims his influences to be the contemporary producers J Dilla, Jon Brion and Madlib.

Exile (Star Trek: Enterprise)

"Exile" is the fifty-eighth episode of the American science fiction television series Star Trek: Enterprise, the sixth episode of season three. It first aired on October 15, 2003 on the UPN network in the United States. The episode was written by Phyllis Strong and directed by former Star Trek: Voyager actress Roxann Dawson.

Set in the 22nd century, the series follows the adventures of the first Starfleet starship Enterprise, registration NX-01. In this episode, Ensign Hoshi Sato (Linda Park) is contacted telepathically by an alien named Tarquin (Maury Sterling), who offers assistance with the Xindi. Whilst she visits Tarquin at his home, the rest of the crew investigate another mysterious sphere within the expanse.

The episode was seen as a take on "Beauty and the Beast", with Sterling required to wear a full head prosthetic when Tarquin was in his non-human form. Several sets were created in a gothic style to represent Tarquin's home, while the anomalies created by the Delphic Expanse sphere were added in post production. The episode was the lowest rated so far of season three, having aired at the same time as Major League Baseball playoffs. It received a rating of 2.3, which was 0.3 lower than a re-run of "The Xindi" a week later at the same time as the World Series. The critical response was positive, although critics pointed out influences in this episode such as Disney Castles, The Lord of the Rings and The Three Stooges.

Float (Styles P album)

Float is the sixth studio album by American rapper Styles P. The album was released on April 16, 2013, by Nature Sounds and High Times Records. The album was produced entirely by fellow New Yorker, American record producer Scram Jones. The album also features guest appearances from fellow American rappers N.O.R.E., Sheek Louch, Jadakiss, Raekwon, Bullpen and Scram Jones.

Background

On February 25, 2013, Styles P announced he would be releasing Float an album entirely produced by Scram Jones on April 20, 2013. The release date was later pushed up to April 16, 2013. On March 5, 2013, the first single "Hater Love" featuring Sheek Louch was released for digital download. On April 4, 2013, the music video was released for "Hater Love" featuring Sheek Louch. On April 8, 2013, the song "Red Eye" featuring Jadakiss was released. On April 20, 2013, the music video was released for "I Need Weed". On May 14, 2013, the music video was released for "Red Eye" featuring Jadakiss.

In a May 2014, interview with XXL, Styles P spoke about the album, saying: "Float was really just a fast project, man. I remember that Sheek was away and Kiss was away, and my engineer Cruz was away. Scram is my homie, I fuck with him, so I needed a studio I could work out of. He live a town away from me, about 15 or 20 minutes, so I would just hop in the ride, go to his place, smoke out, throw a beat on and the joint was done. One day I think we did four or five joints. Whenever I got there, we did joints. I got a lot of love for Scram. He’s an authentic beatmaker and producer. I love Scram, Statik, Alchemist, [Dame] Greese, Vinny Idol—those dudes make the sound I fuck with. [Float] didn’t start as a project. We just had so much so fast that we thought, "Well, we might as well do something." So we did."

Float (b-boy move)

The float is a b-boying move in which the body is held parallel to the floor while balancing on one or both hands. Though it appears to demand great strength, the float actually requires balance above all because the breaker's weight is supported on the elbows which are firmly planted ("stabbed") into the lower abdomen near the ASIS.

Stationary floats are often employed as freeze poses. On the other hand, breakers can "walk" with floats by shifting weight from one hand to the other and thus moving in a straight line or circle. These moving floats can be made to spin very fast and become the first power moves that were done in the 80's.

Float (sculpture)

Float is a public artwork by American artist Peter Flanary located on the campus of the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee in front of Sandburg Hall, which is in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA.

Description

The sculpture is nestled into a deep ravine and takes advantage of the lay of the land. Flanary has said that before creating any sculpture, "I go to the desired location where the sculpture will be built and just sketch." (Phone interview with Peter Flanary December 4 2pm). "Float" plays with the weight of materials and combines a bronze structure of a canoe with the heavy granite stone. The piece is approximately 15 feet high and barely rises to the level of the sidewalk leading to Sandburg Hall.

Float was purchased with $25,000 that was set aside for artwork during the building of Sandburg Hall. The artist originally meant for the piece to feature a cart with an anvil on top and a star reigning over. Sandburg Hall's architect thought that this design demonstrated a communist ideal and forced Flanary to come up with something else.
