Fleet Foxes
Fleet Foxes is an American indie folk band that was formed in Seattle, Washington. It is signed to the Sub Pop and Bella Union record labels. The band came to prominence in 2008 with the release of its second EP, Sun Giant, and its first, self-titled album Fleet Foxes. Both received much critical praise and reviewers often noted the band's use of refined lyrics and vocal harmonies. Fleet Foxes' second studio album, Helplessness Blues, was released on 3 May 2011.
History
Formation and early years
Robin Pecknold and Skyler Skjelset both attended Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, a suburb of Seattle, and soon became close friends. Pecknold and Skjelset bonded over a mutual appreciation of Bob Dylan and Neil Young and began making music together. Their parents influenced their musical tastes early on—Skjelset's mother Peggi was a keen listener to both Bob Dylan and Hank Williams while Pecknold's father Greg was a member of The Fathoms, a local 1960s soul group. The two were interested in the achievements of Dylan and Brian Wilson and realized the importance of practicing music from a young age.
The Fleet Foxes
The Fleet Foxes is a self-released EP by the Seattle, Washington-based band Fleet Foxes. Sold by the band at local shows in Seattle, only 50 copies were made. It was released in the fall of 2006 around the Seattle area, and its success led to the eventual signing of Fleet Foxes to Sub Pop records. The album was produced and recorded by veteran Seattle producer Phil Ek.

Fleet Foxes (album)
Fleet Foxes is the debut studio album by the Seattle, Washington-based band Fleet Foxes. It was released on June 3, 2008, in the United States and June 9 in the United Kingdom. The album debuted at #11 on the UK album charts, eventually peaking at #3, and on June 26, 2008, it debuted in Sweden at #34, eventually reaching peak position at #16.
Many critics ranked Fleet Foxes one of the best albums of 2008, with reviews averaging four to five stars out of five.
Recording
Producer, and Pecknold family friend, Phil Ek had earlier helped Fleet Foxes record their first demo and used his influence to assist in shopping it to record labels. Ek described the demo as "a very different sound but [...] still very good." According to the producer it was when Robin began writing differently that he thought it was time to do something "for real".
The resulting album was recorded with Ek over the course of a year. As Sub Pop had yet to get involved with the band at this point, the recording was funded by the group themselves.
