    Misfits (band)

Misfits are an American punk rock band often recognized as the progenitors of the horror punk subgenre, blending punk rock and other musical influences with horror film themes and imagery.

Founded in 1977 in Lodi, New Jersey the original lineup consisted of singer and songwriter Glenn Danzig, guitarist Jimmy Battle, bassist Diane DiPiazza, and drummer Manny Martínez. Following the departure of DiPiazza, Danzig and bassist Jerry Only were the only consistent members throughout the next six years. During this time they released several EPs and singles, and with Only's brother Doyle as guitarist, the albums Walk Among Us (1982) and Earth A.D./Wolfs Blood (1983), both considered touchstones of the early-1980s hardcore punk movement.

Misfits disbanded in 1983 and Danzig went on to form Samhain and then the eponymous Danzig. Several albums of reissued and previously unreleased material were issued after the group's dissolution, and their music became influential to punk rock, heavy metal, and alternative rock music of the late 1990s and early 2000s.

  • Misfits (The Kinks album)

Misfits is the sixteenth studio album by the English rock group The Kinks, released in 1978. Following the minor success of Sleepwalker in the United States, Misfits featured a more rock-oriented style than many other Kinks records of the 1970s. Despite internal conflicts within the band, leading to both bassist Andy Pyle and pianist John Gosling quitting the band, the album made the Top 40 in America. The album also contained the minor hit single "A Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy", as well as less successful releases "Live Life" and "Black Messiah".

    Background

Misfits was the second album the band recorded for Arista Records, the record company the band switched to from RCA Records in 1976. Although the band had spent a good portion of the 1970s releasing concept albums, their previous album, Sleepwalker, signaled a shift toward more rock based material. In addition, the album began the band's commercial comeback in the US, the album reaching #21 and its title track peaking at #48. However, after the recording of Sleepwalker, longtime bassist John Dalton quit the band, being replaced by Andy Pyle. The personnel shifts, however, would continue into the recording of Misfits, where Pyle and the band's pianist, John Gosling, both left the band.

Misfits (Blanco & The Jacka album)

Misfits is a collaboration album between rappers Blanco & The Jacka, released on February 12, 2013. It includes guest appearances from Dru Down, Mistah F.A.B. & Husalah, among others. The album cover is a tribute to the American rock band Misfits.

    Critical reception

Punknews.org gave the album 3/5 stars saying, "Misfits is a bait-and-switch in the purest sense, and is actually not too bad for a product resulting from a sale based in false pretenses. The vast number of contributors gives the piece a flow, featuring a multitude of vocal delivery styles. But one has to wonder, are so many people packed on here because they want to give everyone a shot, or because most of the participants can't carry a whole release themselves? Still, this is one of the most interesting curios of the year."RapReviews gave it 6.5/10 and concluded that "It's evidently not everybody's cup of tea. It's hard to extract meaning from both individual verses and the overall concept. Still there's surprisingly little discord throughout the disc. This is Bay street shit, unusually packaged and produced, but nonetheless reflective of the vibe the scene is on, a scene that is still going strong, last but not least because of its ability to adapt."
