First Love (2004 documentary film)
First Love: A Historic Gathering of Jesus Music Pioneers is a 2004 concert film and documentary that looks back into the Jesus Music of the 1970s. In 1997, a group of Jesus Music pioneers gathered in southern California for three days of music and fellowship. The event was both recorded and filmed, and was released in a 2-CD/2-DVD set simply titled First Love: A Historic Gathering of Jesus Music Pioneers. It was compiled and edited by the spouses of two of the artists who appear in the documentary: Dan Collins (husband of Jamie Owens-Collins) and Steve Greisen (husband of Nelly Greisen (2nd Chapter of Acts)) produced the project. The CD contains each of the 31 songs that were performed during the gathering, and the DVDs shows the live performances of the songs, interviews with the individual performers and groups, interviews with others who were involved in the roots of Jesus Music, and rare pictures and footage of the artists from the 1970s. Other artists who were interviewed for the documentary include pastor Chuck Smith, Pat Boone, Phil Keaggy, and Michael Omartian, among others.
First Love (1939 film)
First Love is a 1939 American musical film directed by Henry Koster and starring Deanna Durbin. Based on the fairy tale Cinderella, the film is about an orphan who is sent to live with her wealthy aunt and uncle after graduating from boarding school. Her life is made difficult by her snobby cousin who arranges that she stay home while the rest of the family attends a major social ball. With the help of her uncle, she makes it to the ball, where she meets and falls in love with her cousin's boyfriend. The film received Academy Award nominations for Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, and Best Music.
Plot
Constance Harding is an unhappy orphan who will soon graduate from Miss Wiggins' school for girls. Her only real relatives are members from the James Clinton family, but they show little interest in the teenager. She is brought to New York by one of their butlers, where she moves in with a bunch of snobs. The upperclass people are not impressed with her, but Connie is able to befriend the servants.
Grenada (1810 ship)
The Grenada was a 408-ton merchant ship built at Kingston upon Hull, England in 1810. She made four voyages transporting convicts from England to Australia.
Career
Grenada was sheathed in copper in 1816.
Under the command of Andrew Donald and surgeon Emanuel Lazzaretto, she left Sheerness, England on 8 May 1819 with 152 male convicts, passengers and cargo. She arrived at Sydney on 21 October. No convicts died on the voyage. Grenada sailed from Port Jackson on 27 December, bound for Calcutta.
Grenada left Portsmouth, England under the command of Andrew Donald and surgeon Peter Cunningham on 9 May 1821 with 152 male convicts, passengers and cargo. She arrived at Sydney on 16 September. No convicts died on the voyage. She left Port Jackson in December with cargo and passengers for Batavia.
Under the command of Alexander Anderson and surgeon Peter Cunningham, she left London, England on 2 October 1824 with 81 female convicts, passengers and cargo. She arrived at Sydney on 23 January 1825. No convicts died on the voyage. Grenada sailed from Port Jackson on 27 March, bound for Madras.
Grenada, Mississippi
Grenada is a city in Grenada County, Mississippi, United States. The population was 13,092 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Grenada County.
History
Grenada was formed in 1836, after removal of the historic Native Americans of the area, via the union of the two adjacent towns (separated by the present-day Line Street) of Pittsburg and Tulahoma, founded respectively by European Americans Franklin Plummer and Hiram Runnels. Development included stores and businesses that supported the county court and market days. County riverfront plantations were developed largely for cotton as a commodity crop.
In December 1862, Confederate general Earl Van Dorn, whose troops had been encamped in Grenada, led the three brigades under his command in an attempt to destroy the Union supply depot at Holly Springs, Mississippi.
In 1851 townspeople founded the Yalobusha Baptist Female Institute for education of their young women. In 1882 it was taken over by the Methodists and renamed as Grenada College. Classified in the 20th century as a junior college, it encountered financial troubles during the Great Depression. The church closed the college in 1936 and transferred its assets to Millsaps College.
Grenada 17
The Grenada 17 are seventeen political, military and civilian figures who were convicted of various crimes associated with the overthrow of the Maurice Bishop government of Grenada in 1983 and the subsequent murder of Bishop.
History
In October 1983, various officials of the people's revolutionary government (PRG) of Grenada under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Bernard Coard deposed and put under house arrest Prime Minister Maurice Bishop. Large public demonstrations followed all over the country. On 19 October 1983, a large demonstration at the Prime Minister's residence led to Bishop being freed. Bishop then went with a large group to army headquarters at Fort Rupert. Later in the day, an army unit arrived from Fort Frederick and a large number of civilians at the fort subsequently died.
After the fighting, eight persons were lined up facing a courtyard wall at the fort. They were subsequently killed. The dead consisted of:
