In British Army usage, a Fire Support Team (FST) is responsible for directing artillery fire and close air support (ground attack by attack aircraft) onto enemy positions. The term FST replaced the previous name of Forward Observation Party and reflects the inclusion of fires other than artillery into their control.
The FST can comprise six people:
A FST Commander
The Team 2IC (second in command) - known as an Ack.
A Forward Air Controller to terminally control Close Air Support (CAS) and manage airspace.
Fire support is long-range firepower provided to a front-line military unit. Typically, fire support is provided by artillery or close air support (usually directed by a forward observer), and is used to shape the battlefield or, more optimistically, define the battle. Warships, for example, have long provided naval gunfire support. Artillery observers allow adjusting fire. Fire support has been used since the advent of cannons in warfare as artillery. Fire support, as an extension, is the marriage of artillery to the forces in contact. It is the direct ability to properly use artillery. It is distinct from direct fire, which is provided by the forces in contact.
Under-pressure Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has outlined why his team has failed to fire this season in the Premier League - and accepts some long-suffering fans have 'lost faith' in his squad.
“Her next of kin have been made aware and are being supported by officers.”Drone team deployed ... “The brigade also deployed its drone team and fire boat as part of its response, with crews carrying out a systematic search of the area.
Many of those contractors have been fired, and the infrastructure to support them in Washington and other offices – people who can book flights and manage payments, for instance – was crippled by cuts over the past two months.
