Fine (penalty)

A fine or mulct is money paid usually to superior authority, usually governmental authority, as a punishment for a crime or other offence. The amount of a fine can be determined case by case, but it is often announced in advance.

The most usual use of the term, fine, relates to a financial punishment for the commission of crimes, especially minor crimes, or as the settlement of a claim. A synonym, typically used in civil law actions, is mulct.

One common example of a fine is money paid for violations of traffic laws. Currently in English Common Law, relatively small fines are used either in place of or alongside community service orders for low-level criminal offences. Larger fines are also given independently or alongside shorter prison sentences where the judge or magistrate considers a considerable amount of retribution is necessary, but there is unlikely to be significant danger to the public. For instance, fraud is often punished by very large fines since fraudsters are typically banned from the position or profession they abused to commit their crimes.

Inkjet printing

Inkjet printing is a type of computer printing that recreates a digital image by propelling droplets of ink onto paper, plastic, or other substrates. Inkjet printers are the most commonly used type of printer, and range from small inexpensive consumer models to expensive professional machines.

The concept of inkjet printing originated in the 20th century, and the technology was first extensively developed in the early 1950s. Starting in the late 1970s inkjet printers that could reproduce digital images generated by computers were developed, mainly by Epson, Hewlett-Packard (HP), and Canon. In the worldwide consumer market, four manufacturers account for the majority of inkjet printer sales: Canon, HP, Epson, and Lexmark, a 1991 spin-off from IBM.

The emerging ink jet material deposition market also uses inkjet technologies, typically printheads using piezoelectric crystals, to deposit materials directly on substrates.

There are two main technologies in use in contemporary inkjet printers: continuous (CIJ) and Drop-on-demand (DOD).

Fine (paper products brand)

FINE is a registered trademark stationed out of Jordan and part of the conglomerate Nuqul Group. Its establishment was in 1958 and FINE's main line of business is hygienic products, which include tissues, toilet paper, diapers, sanitary napkins, adult briefs, pocket tissues among others. FINE has operational facilities in Jordan, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Sudan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia.

Fine Hygienic Paper Co., was founded in 1958 as the Group’s first industrial operation. It specializes in the production and conversion of hygienic tissue paper products such as Fine facial tissues, baby diapers, feminine sanitary napkins, toilet rolls, kitchen towels, table napkins, drinking straws, coasters and wet wipes in addition to all types of stationery paper.

Over the years, the company has played a major role in expanding the Group’s activities and operations to include setting up similar industries in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Arab Republic of Egypt, Republic of Lebanon United Arab Emirates and Yemen Republic.

Sire

Sire is a form of address for reigning kings in the United Kingdom and in Belgium. It has also been used in France, Italy, Germany, Portugal, Sweden and Spain. Historically Sire had a wider usage. During the Middle Ages, Sire was generally used to address a superior, a person of importance or in a position of authority or the nobility in general. The word "sire" and the French "(mon)sieur" share a common etymologic origin, both ultimately being related to the Latin senior.

Childe

In the Middle Ages, a childe or child [Old English Cild > "Young Lord"] was the son of a nobleman who had not yet attained knighthood, or had not yet won his spurs. As a rank in chivalry, it was used as a title, e.g. Child Horn in King Horn, as a male progressed through the positions of squire and then knight.

The term is now obsolete, but is still well known from poetry, such as Robert Browning's Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came and Lord Byron's Childe Harold's Pilgrimage.

In the local dialect of North East Scotland known as Doric a Childe (pronounced cheeil) is the name used that may be directly translated as chap or fellow or man in English . For example a working childe was a working man or chap . A dour childe is dour fellow for example.

Cultural references

The term is used to apply to an expected next stage in human evolution in the Childe Cycle novels by Gordon R. Dickson.

Childe in Stephen King's The Dark Tower is, in Roland Deschain's own words, "...a term that describes a knight - or a gunslinger - on a quest. A formal term, and ancient. We never used it among ourselves...for it means holy, chosen by ka. We never liked to think of ourselves in such terms, and I haven't thought of myself so in many years." (p. 859, The Dark Tower VII: The Dark Tower, Pocket Books, 2006 ed.)

Sire (woreda)

Sire is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. It's part of the Arsi Zone. It is part of former Dodotana Sire woreda. The administrative center of woreda is Sire.

Demographics

The 2007 national census reported a total population for this woreda of 73,970, of whom 37,812 were men and 36,158 were women; 8,376 or 11.32% of its population were urban dwellers. The majority of the inhabitants said they practised Ethiopian Orthodox Christianity, with 51.61% of the population reporting they observed this belief, while 44.46% of the population were Muslim, and 3.76% of the population were Protestant.
