White Heart

White Heart, also listed as Whiteheart, is a contemporary Christian music pop-rock band which formed in 1982. White Heart's discography includes thirteen albums, the most recent of which was released in 1997. Original members Billy Smiley and Mark Gersmehl worked with a continually-changing cast of band-mates. In 1985, former roadie Rick Florian became the lead singer.

Although White Heart has not officially "retired" as a band, remaining members Smiley, Gersmehl and Florian are each pursuing other interests. Smiley started his own label, Cul-de-Sac Records. Gersmehl continues to write music and has released solo efforts. Florian is a real estate agent in the Franklin, Tennessee area and also continues to sing for various recording projects.

History

Formation

White Heart formed in 1982 with two of its members coming from Bill Gaither's group. The original lineup consisted of Billy Smiley (guitar, keyboards, and occasional lead vocals), Mark Gersmehl (keyboards and occasional lead vocals), Steve Green (lead vocals), Gary Lunn (bass), and brothers Dann and David Huff (guitars/vocals & drums respectively).

  • "Find a Way" (A Tribe Called Quest song), a 1998 alternative hip hop song by A Tribe Called Quest
  • "Find a Way" (Alessandra Amoroso song), a 2009 pop song by Italian performer Alessandra Amoroso
  • Find a Way (Amy Grant song)

"Find a Way" is a 1985 single by Christian music singer Amy Grant. It was released as the first single from her Unguarded album. Also, "Find a Way" was Grant's first major single release, as it was issued in secular outlets by A&M Records along with the album. Although the single was released in both the United States and the United Kingdom with "It's Not a Song" as a B-side, it only charted in America.

"Find a Way" is an uptempo, inspirational song in which Grant encourages her listener, an "angry young woman", to persevere and stay optimistic despite life's trials, because "love will surely find a way."

    Background

Between 1982 and 1984, Amy Grant had become one of the most popular contemporary Christian singers to date. Her album Age to Age had become the best-selling Christian album up to that point; it became the first Christian album by a solo artist to be certified gold in 1983.

Although Grant never made public her intentions to crossover to mainstream music during this period, her success might have hinted at future decisions. When she penetrated into the country charts in late 1983 with the holiday single "Tennessee Christmas", she managed to be nominated for an ACM award for Best New Female Vocalist. In 1985 she continued her success when she performed "Angels", a song from her 1984 album Straight Ahead, on the nationally televised Grammy Awards.

Find a Way (A Tribe Called Quest song)

"Find a Way" is the first single by A Tribe Called Quest, from their fifth and final album The Love Movement. The song samples "Technova" by Towa Tei. The New York Times' Ben Ratliff wrote that the song "innocently wonders about the point at which friendship spills over into sex."

    Music video

The video starts in outer space, with a wide view of Earth that is later revealed to be a decoration in Ali Shaheed Muhammad's car. Ali spots three girls, and Q-Tip decides to make a move on all three. A scene of California appears, and shows the group walking on the beach while Phife Dawg is rapping. It then moves to a party, showing Q-Tip in a romantic moment. From there, the video shifts to an art museum where Q-Tip is talking to his girl. The video then returns to Phife Dawg on the beach, telling a girl that he will do what she wants. The video ends with the group in a club, dancing with women and having fun. During the final chorus, the video pans once again to outer space, then shows the group sleeping in Ali's car. There is an iconic sing-along style bouncing ball each time the chorus plays.

    Inside

Hey Me Nice guy, I don't know your name
You've been hanging around for so long
    At my place
I can see the rumblings in the sky
    There goes the setting sun
It's crawling back again to find me
Get it out of my mind
    (Chorus)
    I wanna feel
    No I wanna dream
I wanna live on the inside
    Ooh I gotta breathe
    Gotta pray
I wanna heal on the inside
    You ain't got me fooled
    Am I a fool
    I keep playing along
I know a place not far away where
    I can be strong
Grass is greener (Oh it's nice)
    On the other side
    You know that's a lie
Ley me go, let me be, help me see
    I wanna fly
    (Chorus 2x's)
    On the inside
    On the inside
    inside
    inside
