Atuot people

The Atuot (also, Reel) are an ethnic group living in the South Sudan in the Upper Nile River Valley, states of Lakes and Bahr-el-Ghazal. They speak the Atuot language, which was first described at a separate language from Dinka by anthropologist John Burton in 1987. It is a Nilotic language related to the Nuer language. The SIL International estimate of speakers of the Atuot language is 50,000.

Reel (dance)

The reel is a folk dance type as well as the accompanying dance tune type. In Scottish country dancing, the reel is one of the four traditional dances, the others being the jig, the strathspey and the waltz, and is also the name of a dance figure (see below).

In Irish dance, a reel is any dance danced to music in reel time (see below). In Irish stepdance, the reel is danced in soft shoes and is one of the first dances taught to students. There is also a treble reel, danced in hard shoes to reel music.

History

The reel is indigenous to Scotland. The earliest reference was in a witchcraft trial of 1590, where the accused was reported to have "daunced this reill or short dance." However, the form may go back to the Middle Ages. The name is probably of Old Norse origins, cognate with Suio-Gothic rulla, meaning "to whirl." This became Anglo-Saxon hreol and Gaelic ruidhle or ruidhleadh, which is the origin of the word now.

After being introduced to Ireland in the late eighteenth century it thrived. Later it was introduced to North America, and remains central in the traditions of Cape Breton fiddling and square dancing.

The episodes from the anime Fullmetal Alchemist are supposed to be based on Fullmetal Alchemist manga by Hiromu Arakawa. Set in a fictional universe in which alchemy is one of the most advanced scientific techniques known to man, the story follows Edward and Alphonse Elric, two brothers, who want to recover parts of their bodies lost in an attempt to bring their mother back to life through alchemy.

Fullmetal Alchemist was first aired on the Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS) in Japan from October 4, 2003, to October 2, 2004. It later aired on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block in the United States from November 6, 2004, and its remake, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, is still airing on Saturdays at 12:30 AM. A theatrical release titled Fullmetal Alchemist the Movie: Conqueror of Shamballa, a sequel to the television series, premiered in Japanese theaters on July 23, 2005; and it premiered in the U.S. on August 24, 2006. A series of five original video animations (OVAs) were also released. The majority of these OVAs are side stories and do not expand on the plot. In 2009, a new anime, named Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood for the English release started broadcast in TV Tokyo being directed by Yasuhiro.

Final (competition)

The final of a competition is the match or round in which the winner of the entire event is decided.

In sports competitions following a knockout system, where only two individuals or teams compete in each match, the final is usually played between the winners of two semi-finals. However, if more than two entrants are required for each match, then qualification for the final may be through some other process such as winning heats.

The final is usually, but not always, the last match in a tournament to be played, and the winner of this match is declared the winner of the whole tournament. In many contests, the winner(s) and runner(s)-up receive gold and silver medals respectively. Another game, or competition, between the two players who lost in the semi-finals is done to determine who receives the bronze medal. Unusually, many teams (32 in recent years) qualify for the FIFA World Cup finals. These teams then play each other in various formats until the ultimate two 'finalists' play off for the gold and silver medals.

Scythian (band)

Scythian is a Celtic/Celtic rock band based in the DC Metro Area that formed in 2002 and went full-time in 2004. Their latest studio album, "Old Tin Can," is the band's seventh album. The band's name, according to the members of Scythian, means "[a] bunch of pre-Mesopotamian barbarians who did not use forks or phonics," to describe a varying sound that encompasses everything from traditional jigs and reels to contemporary covers. The UB Post describes their sound as a mix of Celtic, Klezmer, Gaelic, Gypsy and Rock.

The band was named after Ukrainian nomads, Scythians, due to the Ukrainian ancestry of Alexander, Larissa and Danylo Fedorykas.

The band comprises brothers Alexander Fedoryka (Violin/Mandolin/Harmonica/Bass/Vocals) and Danylo Fedoryka (Rhythm Guitar/Accordion/Vocals) as well as band members Josef Crosby (Violin/Bass/Vocals), and Tim Hepburn (Percussion/Drums). Since its inception, Scythian developed from a group of street performers in Alexandria, VA, to the 2009 winner of Washington City Paper's Best of DC 'Best Local Band' competition. In 2004 the band scored a brief appearance in the M. Night Shyamalan film The Village. The band has toured extensively on the East Coast. In 2011, Ben-David Warner began touring with Scythian, greatly strengthening their live sound. He left the band in 2014, returning to play once in 2015 while the band was on tour. He also makes an appearance on Old Tin Can. In July 2011, Michael Ounallah left the band. He was replaced by Andrew Toy as drummer who played through 2013. The band's current drummer is Tim Hepburn.
