Leaf

A leaf is an organ of a vascular plant and is the principal lateral appendage of the stem. The leaves and stem together form the shoot.Foliage is a mass noun that refers to leaves collectively.

Typically a leaf is a thin, dorsiventrally flattened organ, borne above ground and specialized for photosynthesis. Most leaves have distinctive upper (adaxial) and lower (abaxial) surfaces that differ in colour, hairiness, the number of stomata (pores that intake and output gases) and other features. In most plant species, leaves are broad and flat. Such species are referred to as broad-leaved plants. Many gymnosperm species have thin needle-like leaves that can be advantageous in cold climates frequented by snow and frost. Leaves can also have other shapes and forms such as the scales in certain species of conifers. Some leaves are not above ground (such as bulb scales). Succulent plants often have thick juicy leaves, but some leaves are without major photosynthetic function and may be dead at maturity, as in some cataphylls, and spines). Furthermore, several kinds of leaf-like structures found in vascular plants are not totally homologous with them. Examples include flattened plant stems (called phylloclades and cladodes), and phyllodes (flattened leaf stems), both of which differ from leaves in their structure and origin. Many structures of non-vascular plants, and even of some lichens, which are not plants at all (in the sense of being members of the kingdom Plantae), look and function much like leaves. The primary site of photosynthesis in most leaves (palisade mesophyll) almost always occurs on the upper side of the blade or lamina of the leaf but in some species, including the mature foliage of Eucalyptus palisade occurs on both sides and the leaves are said to be isobilateral.

Nissan Leaf

The Nissan Leaf (also formatted "LEAF" as a backronym for leading environmentally-friendly affordable family car) is a compact five-door hatchback electric car manufactured by Nissan and introduced in Japan and the United States in December 2010, followed by various European countries and Canada in 2011. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) official range for the 2016 model year Leaf with the 30 kWh battery is 172 km (107 miles) on a full battery charge, while the trim with the smaller 24 kWh battery is 135 km (84 miles), the same as the 2014/15 model year.

As of December 2015, the Nissan Leaf is the world's all-time best selling highway-capable all-electric car. Leaf global sales passed the 200,000 unit milestone in December 2015, five years after its introduction. As of December 2015, the top markets for Leaf sales are the United States with over 89,000 units, followed by Japan with over 57,000 units, and Europe with over 49,000 Leafs. The European market is led by Norway with over 15,000 new units, and the U.K. with over 12,000 units registered.

Xfig

Xfig is a free and open source vector graphics editor which runs under the X Window System on most UNIX-compatible platforms.

In Xfig, figures may be drawn using objects such as circles, boxes, lines, spline curves, text, etc. It is also possible to import images in formats such as GIF, JPEG, EPS, PostScript, etc. Those objects can be created, deleted, moved or modified. Attributes such as colors or line styles can be selected in various ways. For text, 35 fonts are available.

Xfig saves figures in its native text-only "Fig" format. Xfig has a facility to print figures to a PostScript printer too. A convenient feature is the PSTEX or PDFTEX export format that allows a smooth integration of Xfig-generated images into LaTeX documents.

Most operations in Xfig are performed using the mouse, but some operations may also be performed using keyboard accelerators (shortcuts). The interface is designed for a three-button mouse, although it is also possible to use a two button or a one button mouse with appropriate emulation, for example on a Macintosh under OS X.

Fig is a crowdfunding platform for video games. The crowdfunding platform was founded by Justin Bailey (formerly, COO of Double Fine Productions), Bob Ippolito, and Freeman White. The advisory board is composed of executives from across the video game industry with previous experience in crowdfunding and investing in video game projects: Aaraon Isaksen of the Indie Fund, Brian Fargo of inXile Entertainment, Feargus Urquhart of Obsidian Entertainment, and Tim Schafer of Double Fine Productions. The platform is backed by funding from Spark Capital. In September 2015, Alex Rigopulos of Harmonix announced that he will also be joining the advisory board of Fig.

Early life

It was an exam week of the second semester of the school year 2003 when four students of the same management block decided to form a band. With a fusion of diverse personalities, Fig was born.

The name of the band derives from the synthesis of their sections when they were in high school. It was then started out as Fignewton, & later on turn to Fig for a catchier & shorter name. Fig is composed of Cong, vocals, songwriter, Jay Angeles on lead guitars, Beng Castro on bass, and France Concio, the drummer.

Coming out from various influences, they describe their music as all at once raw, all at once angsty, all at once sentimental. Their melody is all drawn from personal experiences complemented by their icon, Foo Fighters, Radiohead, Incubus, Beatles.

Fig has just released their album entitled "Siklo". The album title refers to an acknowledgement of life's cycles. The themes reflect the questions, struggles, acceptance and experiences of diverse successions and the emotions that come along with it. Songs like Linya and Maaari which basically reflect longing that comes out from separation. Hey Michelle and P.I.N. deal with fears and hopes that they encounter during significant transitions. They also experience despair and angst with songs like Interchange and Chubibo which reveal traces of acceptance. There is also hope and a strong sense of need that can be seen in songs such as Pag Asa and Walang Sinasanto.
