Gerald Albright

Gerald Albright (born August 30, 1957) is an American jazz saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist.

Albright has sold over 1,000,000 albums in the U.S. alone. His self-produced music features him on bass guitar, keyboards, flutes, drum programming, and background vocals.

Biography

Born in Los Angeles, Albright grew up in its South Central neighborhood. He began piano lessons at an early age, even though he professed no great interest in the instrument. His love of music picked up considerably when he was given a saxophone that belonged to his piano teacher. It was further reinforced when he attended Locke High School, a breeding ground for many young West Coast musicians. After high school, he attended the University of Redlands where he received a B.S. degree in business management, minoring in music. Already a polished saxophonist by the time he enrolled in college, Albright suddenly switched to bass guitar after he saw Louis Johnson in concert.

Immediately after college, Albright began to master his talent by working extensively in the studio with such artists as Anita Baker, Ray Parker, Jr., The Temptations and Olivia Newton-John. A few months after graduating from college, Gerald joined Patrice Rushen, who was in the process of forming her own band, in which he played the saxophone. Later, when the bass player left in the middle of a tour, Albright replaced him and finished the tour on bass guitar. Consequently, he often performed on both instruments. Around the same time, he also began to tour Europe with drummer Alphonse Mouzon.

Smooth scheme

In algebraic geometry, a smooth scheme over a field is a scheme which is well approximated by affine space near any point. Smoothness is one way of making precise the notion of a scheme with no singular points. A special case is the notion of a smooth variety over a field. Smooth schemes play the role in algebraic geometry of manifolds in topology.

Definition

First, let X be an affine scheme of finite type over a field k. Equivalently, X has a closed immersion into affine space Aⁿ over k for some natural number n. Then X is the closed subscheme defined by some equations g₁ = 0, ..., g_r = 0, where each g_i is in the polynomial ring k[x₁,..., x_n]. The affine scheme X is smooth of dimension m over k if X has dimension at least m in a neighborhood of each point, and the matrix of derivatives (∂g_i/∂x_j) has rank at least n−m everywhere on X. (It follows that X has dimension equal to m in a neighborhood of each point.) Smoothness is independent of the choice of embedding of X into affine space.

List of Black Books episodes

Black Books, an English sitcom television series created by Dylan Moran and Graham Linehan, premiered on 29 September 2000 on Channel 4 in the United Kingdom and Ireland, and ended on 15 April 2004. The show spans 18 episodes over three series. The original 45 minute pilot, recorded in 1998, has not been broadcast and all other episodes were approximately 25 minutes long. Moran and Linehan decided to end the show in its third series. Moran has stated that there will be no more episodes and The Times reported the series has been "killed off".

All three series of Black Books were released on DVD in the United Kingdom in 2006. The first two series were released in North America the same year and the third series was released in 2007. A complete DVD box set with additional features, titled "The Complete Black Books" was released in 2007. A limited edition DVD box set, titled "The Definitive Collector's Edition," was released in 2010 and included additional features, a booklet of liner notes and a wine bottle opener.

"Fever" is a song by Norwegian singer Tone Damli from her third studio album Sweet Fever (2007). It was released in Norway on 12 March 2007. The song has peaked to number 6 on the Norwegian Singles Chart.

Klinik

Klinik, (sometimes called The Klinik), is an industrial music band from Belgium, originally formed around 1982 by electro-synthpop practitioner Marc Verhaeghen, who is the only constant member.

History

Marc Verhaeghen originally formed Klinik in the early-to-mid 1980s; the exact date varies depending on the source. The group is normally described as one of the most influential Belgian industrial bands in history.

In 1985, Verhaeghen joined forces with two other bands, Absolute Body Control (with Dirk Ivens and Eric van Wonterghem), and "The Maniacs" (Sandy Nys) to form one "super group" "Absolute Controlled Clinical Maniacs". This rather unwieldy name was soon dropped in favour of the shorter name "The Klinik". Nys soon left the band to form "Hybryds", followed in 1987 by van Wonterghem, leaving The Klinik as the "classic" duo of Dirk Ivens and Marc Verhaeghen.

The Klinik soon made a name for themselves with their cold and harsh EBM sound and their live shows, where both Ivens and Verhaeghen performed with their heads wrapped in gauze, wearing long black leather coats. Ivens' hissing vocals and minimalist lyrics were complemented by Verhaeghen's synthesizer skills and distorted trombone playing. This however, did not last forever; after Time, an album neither member was fully pleased with, musical differences became too great, and they decided to go their separate ways. In a 2013 interview, Ivens said the due were moving in different directions musically, and that compromise between only two members was challenging.
