Felipe Varela is a Spanish fashion designer.

Early career [link]

Varela studied design and pattern design at Esmod College in Paris. He went on to study haute couture and textiles at the I.F.M., where he was awarded the Oscar for Young Designer.

As a student in Paris, Varela worked for international couture houses Kenzo, Dior, Thierry Mugler, Lanvin, Angelo Tarlazzi and Torrente.[1]

Felipe Varela brand [link]

In January 1994 he arrived in Madrid, where he set up his eponymous Felipe Varela brand. In 1996, he started showing at the Cibeles Fashion Show. In 1998 he opened his first Madrid store, at 30, José Ortega y Gasset Street.

In 2000 he opened a chain of Felipe Varela boutiques in El Corte Inglés department stores.

His designs are now available on the international market and online.

Notable clients [link]

He dresses Princess Letizia of Spain for most of her formal engagements.

The princess notably wore Felipe Varela when welcoming President Sarkozy and Carla Bruni to Spain in 2009 [2] and to the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in 2011. [3]

He dressed the model Mar Saura for her appearance in the Spanish soap opera "Una de dos".[4]
