Fay Elinora Lanphier (12 December 1905 – June 21, 1959) was a model most noted for becoming Miss California in 1924 and Miss America in 1925. She was also the 1925 Rose Queen. To date, she is the only person to hold both titles at the same time. She is also the first Miss California to become Miss America. Before she was Miss California, she was Miss Santa Cruz (1924). She graduated from Oakland High School in 1924.
Lanphier appeared in the Paramount Pictures film The American Venus (1926) which featured a beauty contest, and co-starred Louise Brooks, and performed for a short time on stage in San Francisco with the Henry Duffy Players.
She was born in El Dorado, California, the eldest child of Percival Caspar Lanphier and Emily Elenora Olson, with five other siblings coming after her.
She was briefly married to Sidney M. Spiegel (son of Joseph Spiegel, founder of the company which bears his name). In 1931, she married her high-school sweetheart Winfield Daniels, by whom she had daughters. She lived in Oakland California suburb Orinda until her death from viral pneumonia at age 53.
Your thoughts are betrayal always the same
Divine abandone always the same
Good and gentle like the shyness
And suddenly dazzled by the rays of a golden life
I feel it coming, feel it coming
And it's all going down
I'm your slave and your victim
I'm in the mire selling myself
Your games surround me in that gloomy future
Oh, what will you have made of me
I feel it coming, feel it coming and it's all going
I feel it coming, feel it coming and it's all going down
So will I be lost and all alone
Abondoned on a dessert plain
My past returns before my eyes
And I'm going down, 'cause it's going down
It's all going down
And I'm going down, 'cause all is going down
It's all going down, going down
I am loyal, and forever
Know my duty
Must leave this place
And take with me only my heart
Oh, just to save it
