Fairy Tail

Fairy Tail (Japanese: フェアリーテイル, Hepburn: Fearī Teiru) is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Hiro Mashima. It has been published in Weekly Shōnen Magazine since August 2, 2006, and has been published by Kodansha in 53 tankōbon volumes; the individual chapters are being published in tankōbon volumes by Kodansha, with the first released on December 15, 2006, and the 53rd volume released on January 15, 2016. Fairy Tail follows the adventures of Lucy Heartfilia, a teenage wizard (魔導士, madōshi), who joins the popular wizards' guild and teams up with fellow guild member Natsu Dragneel as he searches for the dragon Igneel.

The chapters have been adapted into an anime series produced by A-1 Pictures and Satelight, which began broadcasting in Japan in 2009. Additionally, A-1 Pictures and Satelight have developed seven original video animations and an animated feature film, Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess. The series ended its initial run on March 30, 2013. However, on March 4, Mashima announced on his Twitter account that the anime would not end yet, and confirmed on July 11 that a sequel series was greenlit. The new series premiered on TV Tokyo on April 5, 2014. An anime adaptation for Fairy Tail Zero has been announced for January 2016.

The second season of the Fairy Tail anime series was directed by Shinji Ishihira and produced by A-1 Pictures and Satelight. Like the rest of the series, it follows the adventures of Lucy Heartfilia and Natsu Dragneel of the magical guild, Fairy Tail. The series contains two story arcs. The first 20 episodes make up the "Nirvana" (ニルヴァーナ, Niruvāna) arc, which adapts Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail manga from shortly after the beginning of the 16th through the middle of the 20th volume. The arc focuses on Fairy Tail's alliance with other guilds to take down the dark guild Oración Seis, aided by the Dragon Slayer Wendy Marvell and a reformed Jellal Fernandez. The last four episodes form the self-contained "Daphne" (ダフネ, Dafune) arc, where Gray Fullbuster seemingly betrays the guild and helps Daphne, a deranged wizard, capture Natsu to power an artificial dragon.

The season initially ran from October 11, 2010 to March 28, 2011 on TV Tokyo in Japan. It was later released on DVD in 12 compilations, each containing four episodes, by Pony Canyon between February 2, 2011 and January 6, 2012. It was licensed by Animax Asia for an English-subtitled Southeast Asian broadcast. Their adaptation aired from February 10, 2012 to April 23, 2012.Funimation Entertainment released the episodes with their own English-dubbed version across two Blu-ray/DVD box sets, released on July 23 and August 20 of 2013, respectively. The two sets were released as together as "Collection 3" on January 6, 2015.

The first season of the Fairy Tail anime series was directed by Shinji Ishihira and produced by A-1 Pictures and Satelight. It follows the first adventures of Lucy Heartfilia and Natsu Dragneel of the fictional guild, Fairy Tail. The season adapts the first 16 volumes of Hiro Mashima's Fairy Tail manga series. Joining the titular guild after befriending Natsu, Lucy goes on missions with him to earn money along with fellow wizards Gray Fullbuster and Erza Scarlet, as well as Natsu's flying cat Happy. The five go on a forbidden S-Class mission with Gray and Erza to save Galuna Island and fight Gray's rival Lyon Vastia. Shortly after, the guildhall is attacked by their rival guild Phantom Lord, leading into a guild war. After the dissolution of Phantom Lord, the group learns of Erza's past as a slave in the Tower of Heaven and confront Jellal Fernandez to destroy the tower. Lastly, once back at Fairy Tail, Natsu and the others face Laxus Dreyar and the Raijin Tribe as they stage a coup in Fairy Tail.
