Home directory

A home directory is a file system directory on a multi-user operating system containing files for a given user of the system. The specifics of the home directory (such as its name and location) is defined by the operating system involved; for example, Windows systems between 2000 and 2003 keep home directories in a folder called Documents and Settings.

Description

A user's home directory is intended to contain that user's files; including text documents, music, pictures or videos, etc. It may also include their configuration files of preferred settings for any software they have used there and might have tailored to their liking: web browser bookmarks, favorite desktop wallpaper and themes, passwords to any external services accessed via a given software, etc. The user can install executable software in this directory, but it will only be available to users with permission to this directory. The home directory can be organized further with the use of sub-directories.

The content of a user's home directory is protected by file system permissions, and by default is accessible to all authenticated users and administrators. Any other user that has been granted administrator privileges has authority to access any protected location on the filesystem including other users home directories.

History and profile

Home was founded in 1981 and concluded publication with the October 2008 issue. The magazine appeared eight times a year and had a circulation of one million. In 2007 Olivia Monjo appointed the editor-in-chief of the magazine. Its website, PointClickHome.com, continued updating until 2009.

Fable (1996 video game)

Fable is a PC point and click adventure game developed by Simbiosis Interactive, which was the company's only release. It was published in North America by Sir-Tech and internationally by Telstar Electronic Studios.

Gameplay

Fable runs on MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows, featuring SVGA graphics (DirectX in the Windows 95 version) and full voice-acting. The game has a minimalist user interface, showing only the cursor (which displays the current verb selected for use) and descriptive text.

The game follows the standard point-and-click adventure game formula of controlling the player using the mouse, whilst avoiding the need to display a list of verbs on-screen. Moving the mouse cursor over an object or person changes the cursor icon to represent a verb. (Use, Talk, etc.) Left-clicking will perform the action displayed, whereas right-clicking will cycle through other verbs relevant to whatever the cursor is pointing at.

Plot

The plot follows Quickthorpe (the protagonist) attempting to complete a quest given to him by the priest of his village. He is to obtain four mystical gemstones said to have control over a part of nature. The priest tells Quickthorpe that he wishes to destroy the gems, as this will supposedly make the world fully habitable by the people of his village again. In order to obtain each gemstone. Quickthorpe must kill a creature acting as the gem's guardian.

Fable (album)

Fable (alternatively LegendChinese: 寓言; pinyin: Yùyán) is a 2000 Mandarin album by Beijing-based C-pop singer Faye Wong.

The album can be considered in three sections. The first five tracks deal with certain aspects of Buddhism, incorporating motifs from fairy tales especially Cinderella. The next three are radio-friendly pop songs. The next two, "Farewell Firefly" and "Book of Laughter and Forgetting", are somewhat more complex musically; they are sung in Mandarin, and are followed by alternate versions in Cantonese, "Firefly" and "Love Letters to Myself".

The first five songs form a song cycle and were composed by Faye Wong herself, marking her further development as a songwriter. Three of them featured as the final segment of every performance in Wong's 2010–2012 Comeback Tour.

All the lyrics on the album are by Lin Xi, and tracks 1–5 were produced by Zhang Yadong, both of whom were regularly collaborating with Wong during this period of her career. Alvin Leong produced tracks 6–12.

Fable (Robert Miles song)

"Fable" is a song by the Swiss-Italian musician Robert Miles. It was released in May 1996 as the second single from his album Dreamland. The song features uncredited vocals from Fiorella Quinn.

It was a hit in several countries, reaching top ten in Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland and UK. Its highest position in Europe was number 2 in Finland, but the single was unable to dislodge Metallica's "Until It Sleeps", which topped the chart then.

The song was charted in 1997, as third single (after "Children" and "One and One"), on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play on which it peaked at number one for one week.

Music video

The music vi deo for "Fable" was directed by Maria Mochnacz. In it, Robert Miles falls asleep on his sofa, in front of the television. On the wall behind him, three girls are performing a choreography of synchronized swimming.
