Finca

In English usage, a finca [ˈfiŋka] (Spanish for an "estate") refers to a piece of rural or agricultural land, typically with a cottage, farmhouse or estate buildings present, and often adjacent to a woodland or plantation.

Overview

Especially in tourism, the term has recently gained the colloquial meaning of a holiday home in a rural setting, situated on the Spanish mainland, the Balearics, and the Canary Islands, and throughout the countries of Spanish-speaking Latin America. Similar rural properties can be found in Italy, despite having a different name.

Fincas can typically look back on an extensive development history, and are often older than 300 years. In some regions however, especially on the Balearics, new buildings are erected.

Finca (game)

Finca is a board game published by Hans im Glück. Players collect fruit by stepping around a windmill and then selling the fruit in specific combinations to the various towns on the game board.

About

Finca was designed by Wolfgang Sentker and Ralf zur Linde and was published in 2009. It is suggested to be played with between 2 and 4 players and takes approximately 45 minutes to play. Finca is for ages 8 and up.

Finca's game board displays the mediterranean island of Mallorca. Each player tries to crop and deliver their oranges, lemons, almonds, and grapes. To move these goods, the player must move workers on a traditional windmill. Players load their goods onto an old donkey cart and travel the island and sell wherever necessary. The objective of the game is to distribute the crops as effectively as possible to be able to deliver faster than your opponents.
