Facets (album)

Facets is a self-published album by American singer-songwriter Jim Croce, released in 1966. (See 1966 in music). Croce had five hundred copies of the album pressed, financed with a $500 cash wedding gift that he and his wife to be, Ingrid Croce, received from his parents. Croce's parents were certain that when Jim would fail completely at selling the record, and, realizing that he couldn't support his family as a singer, he would abandon music and finish his college education. To their surprise, he not only sold every last record but also turned a profit of almost $2500. The majority of those records were sold at Croce's shows. Original vinyl copies of Facets are extremely rare today; well-preserved copies are known to fetch as much as $1,000 from collectors. Shout! Factory released an expanded two-disc version in 2004.

Facets (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine)

"Facets" is the 71st episode of the American syndicated science fiction television series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, the 25th and penultimate episode of the third season.

In this episode, Jadzia Dax undergoes a Trill rite of closure that brings her face to face with the past hosts of her symbiont, forcing her to deal with feelings of inferiority as a Dax host herself. Also, Nog takes a simulator test as part of his Starfleet Academy admissions process, much to the dismay of his Uncle Quark.

Plot

Jadzia Dax finally makes plans to undergo her Zhian'tara, in which she has the chance to actually meet her previous hosts by temporarily transferring each one's memories from the symbiont into the minds of each of her closest friends.

The Zhian'tara is the Trill rite of closure. This is an emotionally intense ceremony which involves the separation of the personalities of the previous hosts from the symbiont into friends of the current host. The relation allows the current host to gain a renewed sense of his/her shared lives. The process takes place with the assistance of a Guardian who telepathically transfers the personalities. Commander Sisko, Major Kira, Dr. Bashir, Odo, Quark, Chief O'Brien, and Leeta have agreed to participate.
