F. Gary Gray

Felix Gary Gray (born July 17, 1969) is an American music video director, film director, film producer, and actor Gray directed Friday, Set It Off, The Negotiator, and Straight Outta Compton, as well as the remake of The Italian Job.

Life and career

Gray was born in New York. He began his career in 1989 when he appeared uncredited in the satire comedy film Major League. Three years later, he directed the music video for Ice Cube's "It Was a Good Day". The video is a literal adaptation of the lyrics. He would go on to direct subsequent videos for Ice Cube, as well as artists such as Cypress Hill, Outkast, Dr. Dre, and Queen Latifah.

At age 24, Gray directed his first film, the urban comedy Friday with rapper-producer Ice Cube and Chris Tucker. Next, he directed the film Set It Off, with Jada Pinkett and Queen Latifah. He then directed The Negotiator, which starred Academy Award-winner Kevin Spacey and Academy Award-nominee Samuel L. Jackson, and earned Gray both Best Film and Best Director awards at the 1998 Acapulco Film Festival.

Gary Gray (politician)

Gary Gray AO (born 30 April 1958), Australian politician, is the Australian Labor Party representative for the Division of Brand in Western Australia in the Australian House of Representatives, since 2007. On 25 March 2013, Gray was appointed to the Australian Cabinet as the Minister for Resources and Energy, the Minister for Tourism, and the Minister for Small Business. From 2010 until 2013, Gray served as the Special Minister of State and the Minister for the Public Service and Integrity.

In 1981, Gray graduated with a degree in economics from Australian National University in Canberra. He was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2003.

Early life

He was born in Rotherham, Yorkshire, England, and emigrated to Australia with his family in 1966, settling in state housing in Whyalla, South Australia. Gray attended Whyalla High School, where he was the dux of his graduating year in 1976. After finishing high school he worked at the local BHP steelworks, and then at the Savings Bank of South Australia. He joined the Labor Party in 1974, and in May 1981, after graduating from the Australian National University with a degree in economics, he moved to Darwin.

Early Years

Gary Gray was born on February 23, 1945 in Fort Cobb, Oklahoma. Following graduation from Fort Cobb High School in 1963, he attended Oklahoma City University, where he led them to the All-College Tournament championship in 1966. His OCU Chiefs made the 1966 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
Gray was named an Academic All American for 1966-1967 by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Professional Basketball Career

Gray was drafted in the third round of the 1967 NBA Draft by the Cincinnati Royals. He was also selected in the 1967 American Basketball Association Draft by the Dallas Chaparrals.
He spent the 1967-68 season with the Royals, averaging 2.4 points per game in limited playing time. He was later selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 1968 NBA Expansion Draft.

Retirement

Gary Gray was inducted into the OCU Basketball Hall of Fame in 1986.
