"Exotic" is a song by Indian recording artist Priyanka Chopra featuring American rapper Pitbull. "Exotic" is to be featured on Chopra's upcoming debut studio album; the track was released by Interscope Records on July 9, 2013 as the lead single from the album. "Exotic" was written by Chopra, Pitbull and RedOne, who also produced the song. It contains both English and Hindi lyrics.

Like Chopra's first single, "Exotic" failed to make any impact in major music markets but performed well in India. The single debuted and peaked on Billboard's Hot Dance Club Songs at #12 and on Dance/Electronic Digital Songs at #16. The single also debuted and peaked on the Canadian Hot 100 at number 74. In India, the song was more successful debuting at #1 on iTunes. The song was selected as the official theme song of Guinness International Champion Cup 2013. The accompanying music video for "Exotic" was filmed in Miami and was uploaded to Chopra's official YouTube/Vevo account on July 11, 2013.

Background and composition

Exotic Shorthair

The Exotic Shorthair is a breed of cat developed to be a shorthaired version of the Persian. The Exotic Shorthair is similar to the Persian in many ways, including temperament and conformation, with the exception of the short dense coat. It has even inherited many of the Persian's health problems .

The Persian was used as an outcross by some American Shorthair (ASH) breeders in the late 1950s to "improve" their breed. The crossbreed look gained recognition in the show ring but other American Shorthair breeders, unhappy with the changes, successfully produced a new breed standard that would disqualify ASH that showed signs of crossbreeding. One ASH breeder who saw the potential of the Persian/ASH cross proposed and eventually managed to get the Cat Fanciers' Association to recognize them as a new breed in 1966, under the name Exotic Shorthair. During the breeding program, crosses were also made with the Russian Blue and the Burmese. Since 1987, the only allowable outcross breed is the Persian. The Fédération Internationale Féline recognized the Exotic Shorthair in 1986.

The liner notes contain a short introduction to SETI written by Frank Drake, an essay by Madison Blue, and descriptions of the Arecibo message, the Drake equation, Project Phoenix, and a history of SETI in NASA.

The recorded 1974 Arecibo message is also found in the music itself, as are recordings of radio telescopes receiving various types of pulsars. The track ".beacon01" features the voice of Frank Drake giving an introduction to the SETI project.

Pharos (horse)

Pharos (April 4, 1920 – April 30, 1937) was a British bred Thoroughbred racehorse and a Leading sire in Great Britain & Ireland.

Pedigree

Bred and raced by Edward Stanley, 17th Earl of Derby, he was a brother to the stakeswinners, Fair Isle (1927) and Fairway (1925) who won 31 races and £71,635 between them. They were by the successful sire, Phalaris, their dam the staying mare, Scapa Flow by Chaucer. Pharos's maximum distance was approximately 1¼ miles and Fairway could stay much further and was altogether a better racehorse. Both Pharos and Fairway were outstanding successes at stud where they both sired classic winners of a high standard. However, Pharos has proved the more influential in the long run and now stands four-square on the pre-eminent sire line in world racing.

Racing record

Pharos won six of his nine starts at age two and three of his nine starts at age three when he also ran second to Papyrus in the 1923 Epsom Derby. Racing at age four, Pharos won four of seven starts, notably beating Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Parth in the ten furlong Champion Stakes at Newmarket Racecourse. Racing at age five, Pharos did not win in his first four starts but then in the last race of his career, won his second consecutive edition of the Duke of York Handicap by six lengths.
