Cain and Abel (comics)

Cain and Abel are a pair of fictional characters in the DC Comics universe based on the biblical Cain and Abel. They are key figures in DC's "Mystery" line of the late 1960s and 1970s, which became the mature-readers imprint, Vertigo, in 1993.

Publication history

Originally, Cain and Abel were the respective "hosts" of the EC-style horror comic anthologies House of Mystery and House of Secrets, which ran from the 1950s through the early 1980s. During the 1970s, they also co-hosted (along with Eve) the horror/humor anthology Plop!. Both comics had been running reprints of Dial H for Hero and Eclipso, respectively, before the introduction of the new host characters.

Cain, "the Able Care-Taker," created by Bob Haney, Jack Sparling and Joe Orlando, first appeared in The House of Mystery #175 (July–August 1968), modeled on writer Len Wein, who was new to the field. A photograph of Wein as Cain can be found in Elvira's House of Mystery #4.

Abel, created by Mark Hanerfeld, Bill Draut and Joe Orlando, first appeared in DC Special #4 (July–September 1969), and began hosting The House of Secrets with #81 (August–September 1969). Hanerfeld was the model for Abel, and he also appeared in a photograph in Elvira's House of Mystery #4.

Caín (film)

Caín is a 1984 Colombian drama film directed by Gustavo Nieto Roa. The film is based on the eponymous novel written by Eduardo Caballero Calderón. The plot sets the biblical story of Cain and Abel in 1960’s rural Colombia. It follows the bitter rivalry between two brothers over the love of one woman.

Plot

Don Polo, a rich influential landowner, has only one legitimate son, Abel, who is spoil, naive and weak. Don Polo’s oldest son, Martín, was born out of a relationship with Dionisia, the housekeeper in his farm called: El Paraiso (the paradise). Martín and Abel have grown up together but in very different circumstances. Martín has been treated not like a son but like any other peasant in the farm. In spite of these differences the two brothers have had a good relationship in which the older and more experienced Martín keeps the upper hand. Their friendship breaks up with the arrival of Margarita, a beautiful young woman who belong to a penniless aristocratic family. Margarita’s father was the previous owner of el Paraiso. Both brothers are attracted to the sweet and flirty Margarita and she is torn between the two.

Everyday (OMD song)

"Everyday" was the third and last single from Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's 1993 album Liberator. Co-founder Paul Humphreys, who had left the band four years prior, is credited as a co-writer.

"Everyday" was the only single from Liberator to miss the UK Top 25, charting at #59. Its accompanying music video features Sara Cox, who would later be known as a BBC Radio DJ.

Everyday (Widespread Panic album)

Everyday is the third studio album by the Athens, GA based band Widespread Panic. It was first released by Capricorn Records and Warner Bros. Records on March 3, 1993. It would later be re-released in 2001 by Zomba Music Group. On July 3, 2014 the band announced that Everyday would be reissued on Vinyl in August, 2014. The reissue will be distributed via ThinkIndie distribution and sold only at participating independent record stores.

Beginning on November 5, 1992, The band recorded the album at Muscle Shoals Sound Studio in Sheffield, AL. They were in the studio for roughly 5 weeks.

The album reached a peak position of #184 on the Billboard 200 chart and #10 on the Heatseekers chart.

The album was the group's first to feature bandmate, John Hermann.

The Secret Value of Daydreaming

The Secret Value of Daydreaming is the second studio album by singer–songwriter Julian Lennon.

Background and recording

After going on tour the previous year to promote his previous album, Valotte, Lennon took a break to write material for The Secret Value of Daydreaming. Recording took place in the Bahamas, at Compass Point Studios, with mixing at the Hit Factory in New York City.

Release

The Secret Value of Daydreaming was released on 24 March 1986 on Charisma in the UK, and a day later on the 25th on Atlantic in the US. The album peaked at number 32 on the Billboard 200 chart upon its release. It was certified gold for sales of over 500,000 copies in the US by the RIAA on 22 May 1986. "Stick Around" reached number 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and number 32 on their Hot 100 chart.

The album was reissued, along with Mr. Jordan and Help Yourself, on 8 September 2009 by Noble Rot Records.
