Cord (unit)

The cord is a unit of measure of dry volume used to measure firewood and pulpwood in the United States and Canada.

A cord is the amount of wood that, when "racked and well stowed" (arranged so pieces are aligned, parallel, touching and compact), occupies a volume of 128 cubic feet (3.62 m³). This corresponds to a well-stacked woodpile 4 feet (122 cm) high, 8 feet (244 cm) long, and 4 feet (122 cm) deep; or any other arrangement of linear measurements that yields the same volume.

The name cord probably comes from the use of a cord or string to measure it.

Definitions

In Canada, the cord is legally defined by Measurement Canada. The cord is one of three legal standards for the sale of firewood in Canada (stacked cubic metre, cubic foot, and cord). However the stacked cubic metre is now the preferred unit of measurement.

In the United States, the cord is defined by statute in most states. The U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology Handbook 130, section 2.4.1.2, defines a cord and provides uniform regulations for the sale of fireplace and stove wood. In the metric system, wood is usually measured in steres and cubic metres: 1 stere = 1 m³ ≈ 0.276 cords.

While it's commonly considered that C-3PO and R2-D2 are the only Star Wars characters to be in all 7 movies, Obi-Wan Kenobi also appears in all of the films: during The Force Awakens, Ewan McGregor's voice can be heard saying the newly recorded dialogue "These are your first steps" while via archive recordings Alec Guinness says "Rey", both occur during a flashback caused by Rey's touching Anakin Skywalker's lightsaber. Before The Force Awakens, Anakin also appeared in all of the films, and was planned to make an appearance as a force ghost in The Force Awakens, but was removed in later versions of the story.

Biz (detergent)

Biz Stain & Odor Eliminator is an enzyme-based, oxygenated and color-safe bleach, detergent booster and pre-treater for laundry stains, sold in both liquid and powder form. It is an enzyme-based bleach that can break down proteins.

Biz bleach was invented by Charles McCarty, a researcher at Procter & Gamble (P&G), and introduced to the American market in 1967.Redox Brands purchased it from P&G in an auction held in the summer of 2000. Forbes estimated the purchase price as more than $40 million. Annual sales revenue reached about $40 million one year later.

Biz was recommended for cleaning the skulls of dead animals in an article on the web site of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, and the writer Bob Harris reported that, when researching for a crime series, he had been told by an FBI employee that the product could be recommended for boiling skulls.

Everyday (OMD song)

"Everyday" was the third and last single from Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's 1993 album Liberator. Co-founder Paul Humphreys, who had left the band four years prior, is credited as a co-writer.

"Everyday" was the only single from Liberator to miss the UK Top 25, charting at #59. Its accompanying music video features Sara Cox, who would later be known as a BBC Radio DJ.

The Secret Value of Daydreaming

The Secret Value of Daydreaming is the second studio album by singer–songwriter Julian Lennon.

Background and recording

After going on tour the previous year to promote his previous album, Valotte, Lennon took a break to write material for The Secret Value of Daydreaming. Recording took place in the Bahamas, at Compass Point Studios, with mixing at the Hit Factory in New York City.

Release

The Secret Value of Daydreaming was released on 24 March 1986 on Charisma in the UK, and a day later on the 25th on Atlantic in the US. The album peaked at number 32 on the Billboard 200 chart upon its release. It was certified gold for sales of over 500,000 copies in the US by the RIAA on 22 May 1986. "Stick Around" reached number 1 on Billboard's Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and number 32 on their Hot 100 chart.

The album was reissued, along with Mr. Jordan and Help Yourself, on 8 September 2009 by Noble Rot Records.
