EV3 is the third studio album by En Vogue. Originally called "Friendship" It was their first project that was not fully produced by Thomas McElroy & Denzil Foster, the then quartet called on hitmakers Babyface, David Foster, Diane Warren, and Ivan Matias among others to provide the group with a new modern sound.
EV3 was the last album recorded with Dawn Robinson who decided to leave the group for a solo career. Her abrupt departure from En Vogue forced the remaining trio to re-record several of Dawn's original lead vocals; however, not every track was re-recorded, with Dawn's leads remaining intact on several tracks and her background vocals still appearing on every song with the exception of "Does Anybody Hear Me".
EV3 spawned two hit singles. The first, "Whatever", reached gold status in the US. The second one, the ballad "Too Gone, Too Long" was less successful. The giant hit "Don't Let Go (Love)" was also included as a key track on EV3. "Let It Flow" was a contender to be a final single. Plans for a single release never materialized, but it did appear the following year on the Greatest Hits compilation Best of En Vogue.
Standin' on this dusty road
Listenin' to my radio
If you could see me, I know you'd swear
I'm a thousand miles from anywhere
Well, it may seem stone insane to you, baby
But I guess it's just what I gotta do
Just to get myself to where you are
Don't you know I traveled many times as far?
Well, I hope I'm headed in the right direction
Got no time for makin' wrong decisions
What could give me such a sense of mission?
Only love, could've brought me here
In the right direction
Well, it takes a strong and a mighty wind
To send me all places I've been
It takes more than one or tells the tale, baby
Searchin' for some Holy Grail
And I, hope I'm headed in the right direction
Got no time for makin' wrong decisions
What could give me such a sense of mission?
Only love, could've brought me here
Everybody knows that love will make you crazy
Make you play the fool it's so intoxicating
So don't you be surprised if one lazy afternoon
I come knockin' on your door, baby
'Cause you know I'm hot on you
Well, I may not pass this way again
And if I do, I don't know when
But it seems to me, unless I'm wrong, baby
Our paths will cross before too long
Well, I hope I'm headed in the right direction
Got no time for makin' wrong decisions
What could give me such a sense of mission?
Only love, should've brought me here
Hope I'm headed in the right direction
Got no time for makin' wrong decisions
What could give me such a sense of mission?
Only love, could've brought me here
Hope I'm headed in the right direction
Got no time for makin' wrong decisions
What could give me such a sense of mission?
Only love, only love can set me off in the right direction
