Eurytus (/ˈjʊərᵻtəs/), Erytus (Greek: Ἔρυτος), or Eurytos (Εὔρυτος) is the name of several characters in Greek mythology, and of at least one historical figure.
King Eurytus of Oechalia (Οἰχαλίᾱ, Oikhalíā), Thessaly, was the son of Melaneus and either Stratonice or the eponymous heroine Oechalia.
He married Antiope, daughter of Pylon (son of Naubolus) and had these children: Iphitus, Clytius, Toxeus, Deioneus, Molion, Didaeon, and a very beautiful daughter, Iole. A late legend also attributes Eurytus as the father of Dryope, by his first wife.
Eurytus' grandfather was Apollo, the archer-god, and was also a famed archer. Eurytus has been noted by some as the one who taught Heracles the art of archery.
According to Homer, Eurytus became so proud of his archery skills that he challenged Apollo. The god killed Eurytus for his presumption, and Eurytus' bow was passed to Iphitus, who later gave the bow to his friend Odysseus. It was this bow that Odysseus used to kill the suitors who had wanted to take his wife, Penelope.
Eurytus (/ˈjʊərᵻtəs/; Greek: Εὔρυτος; fl. 400 BC), was an eminent Pythagorean philosopher who Iamblichus in one passage describes as a native of Croton, while in another, he enumerates him among the Tarentine Pythagoreans. He was a disciple of Philolaus, and Diogenes Laërtius mentions him among the teachers of Plato, though this statement is very doubtful. It is uncertain whether Eurytus was the author of any work, unless we suppose that the fragment in Stobaeus, which is there ascribed to one Eurytus, belongs to this Eurytus.
Aristotle, (Metaphysics 1092b) mentions Eurytus, speaking about points as limits of spatial magnitude:
Alexander of Aphrodisias elaborates further:
According to the historian's from the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, Philolaus and Eurytus are identified by Aristoxenus as teachers of the last generation of Pythagoreans (D. L. VIII 46). A Echecrates is mentioned by Aristoxenus as a student of Philolaus and Eurytus. (p. 166)
Eurytus and Cteatus were twin brothers in Greek Mythology. Named the Moliones or Molionidai for their mother, Molione, they were the sons of either Actor or Poseidon and nephew of Augeas. Greek legend maintains that the brothers were born conjoined with only one body but two heads, four arms and four legs, though Homer makes no mention of this.
Both brothers went on expeditions of war to the Neleus and the Pylians, and later led an army marching against their uncle Augeas at the behest of Heracles. However after the latter made peace, the brothers attacked Heracles and were subsequently killed by him outside Cleonae.
Eurytus and Cteates married the twin daughters of Dexamenus, Theraephone and Therenice, respectively. Their respective sons, Thalpius and Amphimachus, were counted among the Achaean leaders in the Trojan War.
Eis und Feuer bringt den Sieg
Schwemmt die Heuchler fort
Von dem Antlitz dieses Seins
Nur Leid und Pein
Ice and fire brings the war
The last stand of this race
Your false ideals will fall
Wiped away by planets faith
Wir sind die Boten
Hört uns an
Lauscht unsren Worten
I'm angesicht von kalten Flammen
Gilt es sich nun zu entscheiden
Falsche Werte zu vergessen
Eis und Feuer zu entfesseln
This is a song of ice and fire
A tale of war for your desire
Let the frost take your breath
Let the flames kiss the flesh
Arise from ice and fire
Fünf Reiter sind nun angekommen
Nehmen mit das Menschenkind
Ziehen es von diesem Ort
Des Menschen grauer Schreckenshort
Das Kind leg tab das Menschenfleisch
Fängt Feuer und zerbricht zu Eis
I'm angesicht von kalten Flammen
Gilt es sich nun zu entscheiden
Falsche Werte zu vergessen
Eis und Feuer zu entfesseln
Ein Lied erklingt auf goldnen Schwingen
Bringt das schwarze Blut zum Singen
Angst und Bang dir dennoch wird
Wenn gleinßend Licht durch Körper bricht
This is a song of ice and fire
Heralds downfall and the end
Of your lies and false ideals
And the fucked up human race
Wir sind die Boten
Hört uns an
Lauscht unsren Worten
I'm angesicht von kalten Flammen
Gilt es sich nun zu entscheiden
Falsche Werte zu vergessen
Eis und Feuer zu entfesseln
This is a song of ice and fire
A tale of war for your desire
Let the frost take your breath
Let the flames kiss the flesh
