Clarity (Jimmy Eat World album)

Clarity is the third studio album by the American rock band Jimmy Eat World, released on February 23, 1999 through Capitol Records. Overlooked upon its release, Clarity has since amassed cult status and critical acclaim, often lauded as one of the best records of the 1990s. Praise centered on its dynamic instrumentation, as well as the heartfelt delivery of singer-guitarist-lyricist Jim Adkins. Various music critics have credited the album for serving as a huge influence on later emo music.

Songs

During breaks in touring in support of Static Prevails, Adkins worked at an art store. While working at this store, "Table for Glasses" came about. Adkins learned about shows that featured art pieces from local artists. Adkins was waiting for a friend's piece to begin when he spotted a girl clearing the area with the end of her dress. The girl walked towards "a candle lit table that had already been set up. She just sat there picking out the dirt from her dress", recalls Adkins. "Table for Glasses" was one of a few songs that was intended for "a side project of quiet songs". The project never got beyond jamming, and thus the songs were considered for Clarity. "Lucky Denver Mint" was inspired by a night out in Las Vegas Adkins had with a friend. Adkins was too young to consume alcohol and instead gambled, eventually spending all of his money. As a result, Adkins spent the remainder of the night "walking around feeling lost."

Clarity (Zedd song)

"Clarity" is a Grammy Award winning song by Russian-German electronic dance music producer Zedd featuring the vocals of British singer Foxes. It serves as the third single from his debut studio album of the same name. The song was written by Zedd, Matthew Koma, Porter Robinson and Skylar Grey and released as iTunes Single of the Week on October 2, 2012, and as an EP on February 12, 2013 via Interscope Records. Zedd has released an extended mix of the song exclusively on Beatport on November 12, 2012.

When Zedd listened to Foxes' song "Youth", he skyped her and asked her to be the vocalist on "Clarity". After Foxes did research on Wikipedia about Zedd, she accepted the offer. In June 2014, following the success of Stay the Night featuring Hayley Williams in the United Kingdom, Clarity was re-released there, and this time reached a better peak of number 27, compared to the previous one of 29 in 2013. It ended up being awarded Silver certification by the BPI following the intake of streaming into Official Charts data in the UK.

Xenosaga

Xenosaga (ゼノサーガ, Zenosāga) is a series of science fiction video games developed by Monolith Soft and published by Bandai Namco. Xenosaga's main story is in the form of a trilogy of PlayStation 2 video games. There have been three spin-off games and an anime adaptation. The Xenosaga series serves as a spiritual successor to the game Xenogears, which was released in 1998 for the PlayStation by Square. The creator of both Xenogears and Xenosaga is Tetsuya Takahashi, who left Square in 1998 along with Hirohide Sugiura. Using funds from Namco, they started MonolithSoft and the Xenosaga project.

The first game in the trilogy, Episode I: Der Wille zur Macht was released in February 2002 in Japan, and in February 2003 in North America. Xenosaga Freaks, a lighthearted game with a playable demo for Episode II, was released in April 2004 in Japan, but was not released elsewhere. Episode II: Jenseits von Gut und Böse was released in June 2004 in Japan and February 2005 in North America. Xenosaga: The Animation, an anime based on Episode I, premiered on TV Asahi in Japan on January 5, 2005. Xenosaga Pied Piper, a three chapter-long cellphone-based game depicting the history of cyborg "Ziggurat 8" 100 years before the start of Episode I, was released in Japan in July 2004. Released on July 6, 2006, Episode III: Also sprach Zarathustra is the final title in the Xenosaga series; six episodes were originally projected, but by the time Episode III was released, Namco had already established that it would be the last entry, effectively halving the series. A retelling of the first two episodes titled Xenosaga I & II was released on the Nintendo DS in March 2006 in Japan.

Ether (band)

Ether were an alternative rock band from Blackwood, Caerphilly, Wales formed in 1996. They had a minor UK hit single in 1998 with "Watching You".

History

The successful incarnation of the band was formed in 1996 by Rory Meredith (vocals, guitar), Gareth Driscoll (vocals, bass), and Brett Sawmy (drums), although Meredith had used the name for an earlier band that he formed as a teenager. After a single on the Regal label in 1996 they moved to Parlophone Records, releasing four further singles and the 1998 album Strange. They recorded a second album in 1999, but it was not released due to the band splitting up.

They drew comparisons to groups such as Squeeze and The Beatles.

Meredith later formed the band Sugar Rush with singer-songwriter Katherine Davies, releasing an album Beautiful But Tragic in 2006 on LA based indie label Beverly Martel Music.
