Esperanto (magazine)

“Esperanto” is the main magazine used by the World Esperanto Association to inform their members of virtually everything happening in the world related to the international language Esperanto.

History

The magazine was founded in 1905 by the Frenchman Paul Berthelot. In 1907, the Swiss Hector Hodler became editor-in-chief. The post has been held since January 2014 by the Brazilian Fabrício Valle, successor to Stano Marček.

The magazine was not published during the two World Wars. In-between, Edmond Privat was the director.

Contents

The magazine shows events related to Esperanto, gives interviews of key actors in the Esperanto community, informs about the last published works. There also are opinions, analyses and decisions.

Esperanto is the ninth studio album by new-age/jazz group Shadowfax. It was nominated for the Grammy Award for Best New Age Album in 1993, losing out to Enya's Shepherd Moons.

Freundeskreis

Freundeskreis (meaning "Circle of Friends") also known as FK, were a German hip hop group from Stuttgart. They performed songs in German, English, French and Esperanto. The members were Max Herre, Don Philippe and DJ Friction.

They were a socially conscious German rap group that released three top twenty albums. Rapping in several languages is common in German hip hop. One of their early albums, Krauts with Attitude, contained only three songs in German with eleven in English and one in French.

Freundeskreis

Freundeskreis were primarily known for their political lyrics, in which they advocate equality and international understanding. After the much-noticed first album, Quadratur des Kreises (Squaring the Circle), and its hit single "A-N-N-A" which peaked at #6 in the German charts, the band released its second album, Esperanto, named after the constructed language Esperanto. The reasoning for the name was that the group wished to show that they believe that hip hop should be the Esperanto of youth.

Orchestra

An orchestra (/ˈɔːrkᵻstrə/ or US /ˈɔːrˌkɛstrə/; Italian: [orˈkɛstra]) is a large instrumental ensemble used in classical music that contains sections of string (violin, viola, cello and double bass), brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. Other instruments such as the piano and celesta may sometimes be grouped into a fifth section such as a keyboard section or may stand alone, as may the concert harp and, for 20th and 21st century compositions, electric and electronic instruments. The term orchestra derives from the Greek ὀρχήστρα, the name for the area in front of an ancient Greek stage reserved for the Greek chorus. The orchestra grew by accretion throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, but changed very little in composition during the course of the 20th century.

Orchestra 2001

Orchestra 2001 is an American orchestra, based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which specialises in the performance of contemporary classical music. Orchestra 2001 is the performance ensemble-in-residence at Swarthmore College, and performs concerts at Swarthmore's Lang Concert Hall as well as in Philadelphia.

James Freeman founded Orchestra 2001 in 1988 as its artistic director and conductor, and continues to serve in both posts. The ensemble is noted for performances of works by composers based in the Philadelphia region, in particular George Crumb. Orchestra 2001 has performed many of Crumb's works since the ensemble's inception. These have included premieres of his American Songbooks series of compositions and other works such as Voices from a Forgotten World. The orchestra has also premiered compositions by other composers such as:

Rock (rapper)

Jamal Bush (born November 4, 1975), better known by his stage name Rock (or Big Rock, or alternatively The Rockness Monstah), is an American rapper, famous as a member of hip hop collective Boot Camp Clik and the duo Heltah Skeltah along with Sean Price. He is known for his deep, grimy voice and having a sophisticated and rugged flow.

After releasing two albums with Heltah Skeltah, Nocturnal and Magnum Force, Rock left Duck Down Records and pursued a solo career. He signed to DJ Lethal's Lethal Records and recorded a solo album titled Planet Rock, which was never released after the label folded. He didn't make an appearance on the Clik's 2002 group album The Chosen Few, being the only member of the "Great 8" not to appear.

He made his official return to Duck Down in 2005, making appearances on Sean Price's Monkey Barz album and Smif-N-Wessun's Smif 'N' Wessun: Reloaded album. He's performed songs for a variety of video games including "I Am Rock" for Need for Speed: Most Wanted, "This Is Me" for Blitz The League II and "I Am Rock" for NFL Street 2. He and the Boot Camp released their third group album, The Last Stand, on July 18, 2006.
