Seeker (comics)

The Seeker is a fictional character in Marvel Comics.

Publication history

The Seeker first appeared in Fantastic Four #46-48 (January–March 1966), and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The character's death was revealed in Inhumans: The Untold Saga #1 (April 1990), and the character appeared in flashbacks in Fantastic Four: Fireworks #1-2 (January–February 1999).

A twin brother of the original Seeker appeared in Fantastic Four Unlimited #2 (June 1993).

The Seeker appeared as part of the "Inhumans" entry in the Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Deluxe Edition #6.

Fictional character biography

Kadlec

When Maximus the Mad took the throne of Attilan, he appointed the Seeker to find and retrieve the exiled Inhuman Royal Family, so that Maximus could marry Medusa and keep the others under observation.

It is later revealed that he was the one who killed Gorgon's father. When it came to a cave in that buried him and Gorgon, Seeker was found dead.

Uys

Years later, Seeker's twin brother also took up the mantle of the Seeker and fought the group Fantastic Force.

Seeker (Anabaptism)

A Seeker is a person likely to join a traditional Anabaptist community, like the Amish, the Old Order Mennonites, the Hutterites or the Old Order River Brethren. Among the 500,000 member of such communities in the United States there are only an estimated 1,200 to 1,300 outsiders who have joined them.

A major obstacle for seekers is the language, because Old Order communities speak German dialects like Pennsylvania German or Hutterite German in every day life and in general won't give it up for seekers.

Seekers among the Amish

Only a few outsiders have ever joined the Amish. Since 1950 only some 75 people have joined and remained members of the Amish. Since 1990 some twenty people of Russian Mennonite background have joined the Amish in Aylmer, Ontario.

Escape (Jessop and Palmer book)

Escape is a book by Carolyn Jessop and Laura Palmer. It discusses Jessop's upbringing in the FLDS polygamous community. Her childhood was affected by the sect's suspicion of outsiders, the division that took place in that FLDS in the 1970s and '80s and by the increasing strictness of the sect her family belonged to. She experienced life with a mother who suffered from depression and was violent with her children. She observed conflict between her parents over celebrating Christmas and the effect of her surroundings and the strictness of the sect on her mother's mental condition and on her mother's relationship with her husband. Importantly for later, she observed and learned how to work round her mother's mood swings and how other children reacted to spanking so as to mitigate the violence but she also learned from her grandmother to take great pride in her church's tradition of plural marriage.

Carolyn wanted to go to college and study medicine but when her father went to seek permission for her to go to college, the condition was that she marry Merril Jessop. It was arranged that she marry Jessop in two days, and to prevent her running away, she had to sleep in her parents' bedroom. She wrote, "The idea of sexual or physical contact with a man thirty-two years my senior was terrifying " Merril Jessop already had three other wives.

Escape (video game)

Escape is an early ZX Spectrum video game developed and released by New Generation Software in 1982.

"Can you ESCAPE from the monsters? You must search through the maze to find the axe which will enable you to break down the door and ESCAPE. But it is not that easy - the Triceratops hides behind the hedges and the Pteranodon soars over the maze to swoop down upon you"

The game

The player has to search a maze displayed in primitive 3D for an axe, which will allow him to break the exit, and escape. He is chased by initially a single monster - each successful escape increases the number of monsters roaming the maze, until level 6, which introduces a Pterosaur that will occasionally take off and fly over the hedges, not being restricted to the maze paths.

Upon finding the axe, which is randomly placed for each level, the player speed slows down allowing the monsters to catch up.

Escape (UK TV series)

Escape is a 30 minute British television anthology series about escapes from German prisoner of war camps during World War II. The series was produced by and aired on the BBC in 1957. It was adapted from Aidan Crawley's book Escape from Germany 1939-1945.

Morris Barry directed the filmed inserts, while Ronald Eyre directed the studio sequences. Among its guest stars were Michael Caine and Roy Dotrice. As usual for the period, it was transmitted live; no recordings are known to survive.
