Eric Thomas (born September 11, 1964) is a former professional American football player, who played cornerback for nine seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals, New York Jets and Denver Broncos. He went to the Pro Bowl after the 1988 season. Eric attended Tulane University.

Eric Thomas (gynaecologist)

Sir Eric Jackson ThomasFMedSci (born 24 March 1953 in Hartlepool, County Durham) is an academic who was Vice-Chancellor of the University of Bristol from 2001 to 2015. From 2003 to 2007, he was Chair of the Worldwide Universities Network and was the President of Universities UK from 2011 to 2013.

Education and career

Thomas graduated in Medicine from the Newcastle in 1976. He trained as an obstetrician and gynaecologist and worked at both the universities of Sheffield and Newcastle. He obtained an MD-by-thesis in 1987 via his research into endometriosis.

In 1991, he was appointed Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Southampton, becoming Head of the School of Medicine in 1995 and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Biological Sciences in 1998. He was a consultant gynaecologist from 1987 to 2001.

In August 2011, Thomas became President of Universities UK, having previously been its Vice-President, Chair of its England and Northern Ireland Council and Chair of its Research Policy Committee. He was Chair of the Board of CASE Europe, a Member of the Board of CASE and was a Commissioner of the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission. He chaired the government Taskforce into Increasing Voluntary Giving in Higher Education, which reported in 2004. He was Chair of the Worldwide Universities Network from 2003 – 2007. He was a member of the Board of the South-West Regional Development Agency from 2002–8.

Eric Thomas (athlete)

Eric Ashley Thomas (born December 1, 1973 in Carthage, Texas) is a male hurdler from the United States, who represented his native country at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. He set his personal best (47.94) in the men's 400 m hurdles event on June 13, 2000 in Rome, Italy.

Eric Thomas founded Champion Trainers, LLC in 2005 to train young athletes for success in their chosen sports activities. Champion Trainers provides individualized fitness and athletic programs to improve endurance, speed, agility, flexibility, mechanics and overall performance.

Charity

The Eric Thomas Foundation, a 501(c) (3) non-profit charitable organization, was organized to raise scholarship funds for youth who wish to pursue higher education and to improve the health and fitness of Texas youths. The Eric Thomas Foundation seeks to target high school athletes and/or students who would otherwise be unable to acquire financial assistance and support, and will make the dream of obtaining higher education a reality. The Eric Thomas Scholarship was presented to its first recipient at Garrison High School on May 17, 2011.

Early life

Thomas was born in Blainville, Quebec, and grew up in Detroit, Michigan. After an argument with his parents, he dropped out of high school and lived homeless on the streets of Detroit for two years.

While he was homeless, he met a preacher who inspired him to go back to school and eventually change lives. He also took a job at a Olive Garden on the westside of Detroit. Around this time, Thomas met his wife, De-De Mosley, at the Detroit Center Seventh Day Adventist Church. They then moved Huntsville, Alabama, attended Oakwood University, and they were married as college students.

Thomas spent twelve years working toward an undergraduate degree at Oakwood and graduated in 2001. While in Huntsville, Thomas preached and set up a program to help underprivileged youth.

Career

Michigan State University

In 2003, Thomas took a job with Michigan State University (MSU) along with a fellowship to attend MSU to complete his Master's degree in K-12 Administration with an emphasis in Educational Leadership. He worked as an academic adviser to disadvantaged students at MSU. At MSU, he developed an undergraduate retention program targeting academically high-risk students of color. He also served as senior pastor at A Place of Change Ministries in Lansing, Michigan. Thomas obtained a master's degree from MSU in 2005, and a PhD in Education Administration in 2015.

LISTSERV

The term Listserv (written by the registered trademark licensee, L-Soft International, Inc., as LISTSERV) has been used to refer to electronic mailing list software applications in general, but is more properly applied to a few early instances of such software, which allows a sender to send one email to the list, and then transparently sends it on to the addresses of the subscribers to the list.

The original Listserv software, the Bitnic Listserv (also known as BITNIC LISTSERV) (1984–1986), allowed mailing lists to be implemented on IBM VM mainframes and was developed by Ira Fuchs, Daniel Oberst, and Ricky Hernandez in 1984. This mailing list service was known as Listserv@Bitnic (also known as LISTSERV@BITNIC) and quickly became a key service on the BITNET network. It provided functionality similar to a UNIX Sendmail alias and, as with Sendmail, subscriptions were managed manually.

In 1986, Éric Thomas developed an independent application, originally named "Revised Listserv" (also known as "Revised LISTSERV"), which was the first automated mailing list management application. Prior to Revised Listserv, email lists were managed manually. To join or leave a list, people would write to the human list administrator and ask to be added or removed, a process that only got more time-consuming as discussion lists grew in popularity.
