Blackfield

Blackfield is a collaborative music project by the English musician and founder of Porcupine Tree, Steven Wilson, and Israeli rock singer Aviv Geffen. Together, they have released three albums under the moniker: Blackfield and Blackfield II as equal partners, and Welcome to my DNA with Geffen taking a more dominant role. A fourth studio album, titled Blackfield IV was released on 26 August 2013, with Wilson taking an even more passive role. After a brief stint of touring in 2014, Wilson stated his intention to leave the band, although Wilson has been shown to be present in sessions for a fifth Blackfield album, tentatively titled Blackfield V.

History

Collaborative era

Blackfield I (2000–2005)

Geffen, a fan of Porcupine Tree and Wilson, invited the band to play shows in Israel in 2000. He struck up a friendship with Wilson, leading to the two musicians recording together. Geffen performed backing vocals on two tracks on Porcupine Tree's In Absentia album, "The Sound of Muzak" and "Prodigal". Geffen, interested in growing a fanbase outside of Israel, approached Wilson about starting their own project, which would become Blackfield. Originally planned as an EP for a 2001 release, it eventually evolved into a 2004 self-titled full-length recording. Wilson provided lead vocals on all but two songs, and played guitar or piano on every song except "Scars", which had instrumentation provided by Geffen's band "The Mistakes. "

Blackfield (album)

Blackfield is the debut album by the art rock band Blackfield, released on the Snapper Music/Helicon labels in February 2004. The album was re-released in August of the same year with an additional three-track bonus disc, followed by a later pressing that contains the album and the three bonus tracks all on one CD.

Two songs are covers in English of earlier Aviv Geffen songs in Hebrew, "Cloudy Now" (עכשיו מעונן) from 1993 and "Scars" (צלקות) from 2000. In the latter case, Aviv's original studio recording was simply re-used with newly sung vocals.

Four singles were released from the album: "Hello", "Pain", "Blackfield" and "Cloudy Now".

There is also a 2-LP version with "Perfect World" and another, LP-exclusive track, "Feel So Low"; the latter is a cover of a Porcupine Tree song from Lightbulb Sun with the first verse sung in Hebrew.

Steven Wilson's SoundCloud page features an extended version of the title-track as a streamable and downloadable WAV file. This version has an extra minute and a half at the end, where the outro groove turns into acoustic guitar strumming and a new vocal line before the song fades out.

Blackfield IV

Blackfield IV is the fourth studio album by Blackfield, the musical collaboration by Aviv Geffen and Steven Wilson. Similar to their third album, Welcome to My DNA, Geffen has taken over more active duties on the album while Wilson focuses on his solo career. The album was released on August 26, 2013.

Background

Over the course of 2010 and early 2011, the two creative directors of Blackfield were split over two musical projects; Steven Wilson wrote and recorded his second solo studio album, Grace for Drowning, and as a result, Aviv Geffen would take more creative control over Blackfield's third studio album, Welcome to My DNA. After both albums' release and promotion, in December 2011, Wilson stated that his various music projects, Blackfield included, would be put on hold, while he focused further on his solo career. Contrary to this announcement, less than a month later in January 2012, Geffen announced his intentions to release a fourth Blackfield album by as soon as May 2012. This prompted Wilson to announce that his role would continue to lessen, with Wilson acting only as a contributor and mixer. Wilson said of the band's future:

Epidemic

An epidemic (from Greek ἐπί epi "upon or above" and δῆμος demos "people") is the rapid spread of infectious disease to a large number of people in a given population within a short period of time, usually two weeks or less. For example, in meningococcal infections, an attack rate in excess of 15 cases per 100,000 people for two consecutive weeks is considered an epidemic.

Epidemics of infectious disease are generally caused by several factors including a change in the ecology of the host population (e.g. increased stress or increase in the density of a vector species), a genetic change in the pathogen reservoir or the introduction of an emerging pathogen to a host population (by movement of pathogen or host). Generally, an epidemic occurs when host immunity to either an established pathogen or newly emerging novel pathogen is suddenly reduced below that found in the endemic equilibrium and the transmission threshold is exceeded.

An epidemic may be restricted to one location; however, if it spreads to other countries or continents and affects a substantial number of people, it may be termed a pandemic. The declaration of an epidemic usually requires a good understanding of a baseline rate of incidence; epidemics for certain diseases, such as influenza, are defined as reaching some defined increase in incidence above this baseline. A few cases of a very rare disease may be classified as an epidemic, while many cases of a common disease (such as the common cold) would not.

Epidemic!

Epidemic! is a real-time strategy game in which the player stands in control of a world on the brink of extinction.

Summary

A space-borne plague has hit the planet and the player must stem the epidemic as quickly as possible and with minimal loss of life.

Developed solely by Steven Faber in machine code, this game was created for Strategic Simulations, Inc.

Your range of methods to deal with the epidemic range from inert methods like interferon, to quarantine, to the ultimate in immediate cessation, tactical nukes.

The game has four difficulty levels, ranging from small controllable scenarios of approximately 20 minutes at level 4, to full one-hour campaigns with severe difficulty at level 1.

Epidemie

Epidemie is the fifth studio album by the Polish heavy metal band Turbo. It was released in 1989 in Poland through Polskie Nagrania Muza. In 1990 English version of the album entitled Epidemic was released through Metalmaster Records.

The album was recorded in March–May 1989 at Giełda studio in Poznań. The cover art was created by Jerzy Kurczak.
