Delta Cafés

Delta Cafés (Portuguese pronunciation: [dɛɫtɐ kɐfɛʃ]) is a Portuguese coffee roasting and coffee packaging company headquartered in Campo Maior, Alentejo. The company was founded in 1961 and is among the top market leaders in the Iberian Peninsula. The company belongs to Nabeiro Group, the personal conglomerate of its founder Rui Nabeiro, which include interests on agribusiness, agriculture, real estate, hotels, and other services.

History

Delta Cafés was founded by Rui Nabeiro in 1961 in the town of Campo Maior, Alentejo in a small 50-m² warehouse, which could only handle two 30 kg roasters. In 1998, the Nabeiro/Delta Cafés Group was restructured and gave rise to 22 companies organized into strategic areas, with turnover of approximately €160 million. In the 2000s, it become the market leader for coffee in Portugal, with a market share of 38%. It has 47,000 direct retail clients (among the largest of which is Sonae, a leading Portuguese retailer) and 3,000 employees. Also in the 2007, Delta Cafés launched its own espresso products, Delta Q, based on a proprietary system of single-serving "capsules" containing ground coffee and rooibos, and specialized machines to brew espresso from the contents of the capsules in a similar way to that of Nestlé's Nespresso brand portfolio.

Delta (video game)

Delta is a horizontally scrolling shooter computer game originally released for the Commodore 64 by Thalamus Ltd in 1987. It was programmed by Stavros Fasoulas and the music was written by Rob Hubbard. The menu-music is based on the theme of Koyaanisqatsi by Philip Glass and the in-game-music is based on Pink Floyd's On the Run. The game was also released for the ZX Spectrum in 1990 as Delta Charge.

The game was released as Delta Patrol in the United States by Electronic Arts for its Amazing Software line of action-oriented software programs, in 1987 on the Commodore 64.

The player controls a spaceship and gains power-up points by destroying formations of enemies. Some enemy formations instead subtract power-up points for the player, so the player must take note of which formations to destroy. Periodically blocks containing the power-ups (higher speed, faster rate of fire) appear and the player can pick one of them up: The more points the player has collected, the more powerful are the power-ups that can be chosen. Unavailable power-ups are gray and kill the player if he flies into them, making them part of the obstacles in the game. The effects of the power-ups are lost over time and must therefore be regained. The player gets a choice between in-game music or in-game sound effects. There is also a high score table but no way to save it when the game is turned off.

Delta 0100

The Delta 0100 series, also Delta 100, 0300 or 300 series, was an American expendable launch system which conducted orbital launches between 1968 and 1972. It was a member of the Delta family of rockets, and the first to be designated using a four digit numerical code. Two variants were flown, individually designated Delta 0300 and Delta 0900.

The Long Tank Thor, a stretched version of the Thor missile, was used as the first stage of the Delta 0100 series. Castor-2 solid rocket boosters were attached to increase thrust at lift-off, three on the 0300 variant, and nine on the 0900. The second stage was a Delta F.

Five 0100 series rockets were launched, three using the 0300 configuration, and two in the 0900 configuration. All launches occurred from Space Launch Complex 2W at Vandenberg AFB. There was one failure, the launch of ITOS E on July 16, 1973. A hydraulic pump malfunction led to loss of pressure to the second stage attitude control thrusters, causing the launch vehicle to tumble out of control and break up in the atmosphere.

Enigma (2009 film)

Enigma is a 2009 science-fiction short film. It is written and directed by the Shumway Brothers .

Enigma was a pet project of the Shumway Brothers for five years. The project started with an idea to collaborate on a film. Jason being from the live action world and Matt from the animation world provided an opportunity to bring something unique to the independent film world. Since they both have a love of sci-fi, this turned out to be the perfect genre for them to create their first film together. Jason and Matt spent six months developing the script and pre-producing the film. Principal photography went over the course of six days, with two rounds of weekend pickups. Post production comprised the majority of the process, taking a little over four years to complete. With the tremendous amount of complex visual effects and having to hold down busy full-time jobs, the post production process was often a difficult task to juggle. Working long hours into the nights and sacrificing weekends provided the time to create the world of Enigma. Shumway Brothers are noted as excited to share their creation with the world. They reportedly received a standing ovation at the Hollywood Premiere. The Shumway Brothers are noted as "happy to see the long hours and several years of work be reflected with smiles and cheers."

Enigma (novel)

Enigma is a novel by Robert Harris about Tom Jericho, a young mathematician trying to break the Germans' "Enigma" ciphers during World War II. It was adapted to film in 2001. He is stationed in Bletchley Park, the British cryptologist central office, and is worked to the point of exhaustion.

Plot summary

Jericho is a doctoral student of the mathematician Alan Turing at a Cambridge college. When the war starts Turing and other professors disappear, recruited as code breakers by the Government Code and Cypher School (GC&CS). Eventually Jericho is also roped in, at the invitation of Atwood who is professor of ancient history at the same college. At Bletchley the code breakers are an eclectic academic set, under pressure to break the Enigma code used by German U-boats wreaking havoc on British and American shipping in the Atlantic. The tension is magnified by internal turf rivalry between the allies over the cryptography effort, with the Americans of the opinion that the chummy common-room efforts of the British operation cannot sustain the decryption speed and volume required to win the Battle of the Atlantic. In the book Turing himself is absent from Bletchley, on a trip to Washington D.C.

Eligh

Eligh Nachowitz (born February 28, 1978), better known mononymously as Eligh, is a rapper and producer from Los Angeles, California. He is a member of the underground hip hop group Living Legends.

History

Eligh's inspiration for making hip hop music came in the mid 1980s from the film Beat Street and LL Cool J's "I'm Bad." In high school, he co-founded the hip hop duo Boogalu Badboys with Scarub. When they crossed paths with another rapper Murs, the three formed 3 Melancholy Gypsys (3MG). Eligh then moved from Los Angeles up north to Bay Area, where he met The Grouch, which ultimately led to 3MG's incorporation into Living Legends.

In the mid and late 1990s, while simultaneously continuing to produce with Living Legends, Eligh released several self-pressed solo albums, such as As They Pass and Gas Dream. In the early 2000s, he released darker and more cryptic albums such as Poltergeist and Enigma.

In 2005, Eligh took a break from music to confront his growing drug and alcohol addiction problems. After heroin usage nearly took his life, Eligh attempted to get clean on his own, but eventually realized that he needed to seek out help. On October 12, 2005, Eligh checked himself into a treatment center, and has been free from all drugs and alcohol ever since. The Grammy foundation MusiCares, helped Eligh get a bed at an addiction treatment center and assisted with the related costs. Eligh also credits Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous with helping him remain clean.
