Freak (The Smashing Pumpkins song)

"Freak" (also titled as "Freak U.S.A.") is the first single from The Smashing Pumpkins's eighth album, Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, and the first song released for the second accompanying EP The Solstice Bare. Like all other songs on the album, "Freak" was released as a free download on their official website. The song was first played live on July 24, 2009, at the first Spirits in the Sky show in memoriam of Sky Saxon. It was performed live by the Pumpkins throughout their 2010 tours.

Critical reception

Spin praised the song, noting that "the catchy chorus of bright guitars and cheerful na na na na nas recall his short-lived pop-rock side-project Zwan; the heavy, distorted bass lines revisit the goth-rock moments of Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness; and his lyrics are all early-Pumpkins."PopMatters's reviewed that "Freak" "largely explores and builds on The Smashing Pumpkins’ earlier, mid-1990s sound while also very subtly hinting at the newly pointed and cultish, lysergic musical atmosphere."

Freak (Bruce Foxton song)

Freak is the debut single by the English rock singer-songwriter and bass guitarist Bruce Foxton, which became a hit and one of his most recognizable songs. It was originally released in 1983, as the lead single from his debut album, "Touch Sensitive". It was inspired strongly by the 1980 biographical film The Elephant Man, with the single's cover even referencing the film's posters.

It was one of four tracks from the album that were produced by the multiple-award winning Steve Lillywhite. The song is notably Foxton's only single to make the Top 40 in the United Kingdom, peaking at 23, for a total of five weeks.

Freak (Estelle song)

"Freak" is a single by English musician Estelle. The song, which features Canadian rapper Kardinal Offishall, was produced by French DJ David Guetta. It contains an interpolation of "Back to Life" by music group Soul II Soul in the chorus. "Freak" was featured on the soundtrack to Step Up 3D and the reissue of David Guetta's album One Love, entitled One More Love.

The single was released in North America on February 26, 2010 and was released in the UK on May 3, 2010 as a buzz single after the song failed to chart in the Top 100. The song was released as her third international single, after "American Boy" and "Come Over" and received positive reaction from most music critics. The song was used as one of the songs of the São Paulo Fashion Week 2010, during the parade of Colcci and in the movie Step Up 3D in 2010. "Endless" (Japanese: エンドレス, Hepburn: Endoresu) is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. It was the leading promotional track from the band's fifth studio album Documentaly, released on September 28, 2011. Created primarily by the band's vocalist Ichiro Yamaguchi over a period of eight months, the song was written as a record of what it was like to live in 2011. The song was the central composition of Documentaly, affecting the album's track order and composition.

The song received strong radio airplay in Japan around the album's release date in Japan, reaching number eight on the Billboard Japan Hot 100. Critics praised the song as "ambitious", noting the song's progression, fusion of electronic music and rock genres and "symbolic" lyrics.

Background and development

In August 2010, Sakanaction released the single "Identity", a song that had first been written early in the recording sessions for their fourth album Kikuuiki in 2009, and recorded just after the band finished recording music for the album. On October 8, 2010, the band performed their first concert at the Nippon Budokan, Sakanaquarium 21.1 (B). The concert experience inspired the band to write "Rookie", which the band began pre-production demo recordings for in January 2011. After finishing work on "Rookie", Yamaguchi began writing and recording "Endless". Originally the band planned to release "Endless" as the second single after "Identity" from their album Documentaly, however Yamaguchi was not fully satisfied with the song and continued to work on it; releasing "Rookie" in its place in March 2011. Just prior to "Rookie"'s planned physical release on March 16, 2011, Japan experienced the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011. Sakanaction cancelled or rescheduled many of their scheduled radio appearances, and during their appearances preferred to focus on messages of hope for the victims of the earthquake, rather than directly promoting the single.

Endless is the second EP by American metalcore band Unearth. Released in September 2002.

Overview

Endless is also their last original release under Eulogy Recordings after moving to Metal Blade Records for their new releases, and is the last record with drummer Mike Rudberg and bassist Chris Rybicki. Buz McGrath and John Maggard played bass on 3 of the EP's tracks, as Chris Rybicki left the band before its completion.

The first 3 songs on this EP were recorded by Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz. The EP was re-released as a vinyl (7") by Confined Records and only contains the tracks "Endless" and "My Desire". The entire EP also appears on their 2005 compilation album Our Days of Eulogy.

The song "Endless" features a tribute the band's first record label, Endless Fight Records, during a breakdown when the phrase "endless fight" is repeatedly screamed by vocalist Trevor Phipps. The song's lyrics also contain the phrase "winds of plague," which inspired the name of a subsequent band called Winds of Plague.
