Cauldron

A cauldron (or caldron) is a large metal pot (kettle) for cooking and/or boiling over an open fire, with a large mouth and frequently with an arc-shaped hanger.

Etymology

The word cauldron is first recorded in Middle English as caudroun (13th century). It was borrowed from Old Northern French or Anglo-Norman caudron (Norman-Picard caudron, French chaudron). It represents the phonetical evolution of Vulgar Latin *caldario for Classical Latin caldārium "hot bath", that derives from cal(i)dus "hot".

The Norman-French word replaces probably the initial Old English word ċetel (German (Koch)Kessel "cauldron", Dutch (kook)ketel "cauldron"), Middle English chetel. The word kettle comes from the Old Norse variant spelling ketill "cauldron".

Symbolism and mythology

Cauldrons have largely fallen out of use in the developed world as cooking vessels. While still used for practical purposes, a more common association in Western culture is the cauldron's use in witchcraft—a cliché popularized by various works of fiction, such as Shakespeare's play Macbeth. In fiction, witches often prepare their potions in a cauldron. Also, in Irish folklore, a cauldron is purported to be where leprechauns keep their gold and treasure.

Cauldron (video game)

Cauldron is a two-dimensional (2D) shoot 'em up/platformer computer game developed and published by British developer Palace Software (Palace). The game was released in 1985 for the ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Amstrad CPC home computers. Players control a witch, who aims to become the "Witch Queen" by defeating an enemy called the "Pumpking".

Designed by Steve Brown and Richard Leinfellner, Cauldron originated as a licensed video game of the horror film Halloween. Brown eventually altered the game to use a theme based on the Halloween holiday. The mix of two genres resulted from Brown and Leinfellner wanting to make a shoot 'em up and platform game, respectively. The developers realized that there were no technical limitations preventing the genres from being combined.

The game received praise from video game magazines, who focused on the graphics and two different modes of play. A common complaint was Cauldron's excessive difficulty. The following year, Palace released a direct sequel titled Cauldron II: The Pumpkin Strikes Back.

Cauldron (band)

Cauldron is a Canadian heavy metal band formed in 2006 in Toronto. They were formed following the breakup of Goat Horn, with guitarist Brandon Wars leaving to form a new band, Zuku. Cauldron consists of Jason Decay on vocals and bass, Ian Chains on guitar and Myles Deck on Drums.

Formation and debut album

Less than a year after formation, the band released their debut EP titled Into The Cauldron with New Iron Age/Iron Kodex Records (Germany), and it was received positively by the metal press, which led to the band touring across Canada. In 2008 the band signed with Earache Records and began to record their debut album. Around this time original drummer Al Artillery left the band to join Relapse Records' Toxic Holocaust, and the position was filled briefly by Steelrider, the original drummer of Goat Horn. He was then replaced by Kill Cheerleader/Zuku/Crystal Castles drummer, Chris Rites. The band's Debut Album Chained to the Nite was released in April 2009 and the band toured the UK with Wolf in support of the album, Cauldron's song "Restless" is featured in a DC Shoes video of professional skateboarder Danny Way.

Endless (Sakanaction song)

"Endless" (Japanese: エンドレス, Hepburn: Endoresu) is a song by Japanese band Sakanaction. It was the leading promotional track from the band's fifth studio album Documentaly, released on September 28, 2011. Created primarily by the band's vocalist Ichiro Yamaguchi over a period of eight months, the song was written as a record of what it was like to live in 2011. The song was the central composition of Documentaly, affecting the album's track order and composition.

The song received strong radio airplay in Japan around the album's release date in Japan, reaching number eight on the Billboard Japan Hot 100. Critics praised the song as "ambitious", noting the song's progression, fusion of electronic music and rock genres and "symbolic" lyrics.

Background and development

In August 2010, Sakanaction released the single "Identity", a song that had first been written early in the recording sessions for their fourth album Kikuuiki in 2009, and recorded just after the band finished recording music for the album. On October 8, 2010, the band performed their first concert at the Nippon Budokan, Sakanaquarium 21.1 (B). The concert experience inspired the band to write "Rookie", which the band began pre-production demo recordings for in January 2011. After finishing work on "Rookie", Yamaguchi began writing and recording "Endless". Originally the band planned to release "Endless" as the second single after "Identity" from their album Documentaly, however Yamaguchi was not fully satisfied with the song and continued to work on it; releasing "Rookie" in its place in March 2011. Just prior to "Rookie"'s planned physical release on March 16, 2011, Japan experienced the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami on March 11, 2011. Sakanaction cancelled or rescheduled many of their scheduled radio appearances, and during their appearances preferred to focus on messages of hope for the victims of the earthquake, rather than directly promoting the single.

Pinoy Big Brother: All In

Pinoy Big Brother: All In is the first special and eleventh season overall of Pinoy Big Brother. Toni Gonzaga, Bianca Gonzalez, Robi Domingo, and John Prats reprised their roles as hosts. For the first time in the history of Big Brother Worldwide, the Regular, Celebrities and Teen housemates lived together inside the Big Brother house.

The show aired on April 27, 2014 on ABS-CBN, replacing The Biggest Loser Pinoy Edition: Doubles. The show aired 10:15 p.m. (PST) every Mondays to Fridays; 9:30 p.m. (PST) every Saturdays; and 9:45 p.m. (PST) every Sundays.

Nineteen housemates had entered the house, 17 on Day 1, and two on Days 21 and 49, and the season lasted 120 days, ending on August 24, 2014. Daniel Matsunaga emerged as the season's winner, the third celebrity to win in the franchise.

Development

Lauren Dyogi, the Director and Business Unit Head of the show, confirmed the show was renewed for a fifth season and audition schedules were soon to be announced. The network officially announced the auditions on September 15, 2013 during an episode in The Voice of the Philippines. The official air date was not revealed in the announcement.

Endless (EP)

Endless is the second EP by American metalcore band Unearth. Released in September 2002.

Overview

Endless is also their last original release under Eulogy Recordings after moving to Metal Blade Records for their new releases, and is the last record with drummer Mike Rudberg and bassist Chris Rybicki. Buz McGrath and John Maggard played bass on 3 of the EP's tracks, as Chris Rybicki left the band before its completion.

The first 3 songs on this EP were recorded by Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz. The EP was re-released as a vinyl (7") by Confined Records and only contains the tracks "Endless" and "My Desire". The entire EP also appears on their 2005 compilation album Our Days of Eulogy.

The song "Endless" features a tribute the band's first record label, Endless Fight Records, during a breakdown when the phrase "endless fight" is repeatedly screamed by vocalist Trevor Phipps. The song's lyrics also contain the phrase "winds of plague," which inspired the name of a subsequent band called Winds of Plague.
